Tools and Hardware Reviews of Howard Leight R-01526 Impact Sport Electronic EarmuffCustomer Review: A Great Product and Great Value Summary: 5 Stars
I like everything about these muffs. I forgot I was wearing them after about 10 minutes. At first I thought I was hearing an intermittent hiss at high volume settings until I discovered that the muffs were picking up highway traffic sounds a quarter of a mile away. With the volume properly adjusted you can carry on a normal conversation while others are shooting nearby. They fold up into a very compact package and conserve precious space in my range bag. They work exactly as advertised and represent a truly great value. Now if I can just keep the range officials from screaming at me... (they have ordinary earmuffs).
Customer Review: A good product...at any price. Summary: 5 Stars
I received these as a Chrismas gift from my in-laws and just put them to the test on a 5-day hunt. The noise amplification is very good. So good, in fact, that if you turn them all the way up you'll be shouldering your rifle every 15 seconds to prepare for that big buck...which turns out to be a chipmunk. The directionality of the sound is superb. It only took me a few minutes to get used to it. The only problem I see with detecting the direction a sound is coming from is when the object is either directly in front of you or directly behind you...it's pretty difficult to figure out which unless you turn your head by about 15 degrees. But I would say that between 12:30 and 5:30 and between 6:30 and 11:30 it is unbelievably easy to determine the direction of the sound. As for muzzle blast suppression, I shoot a Browning 7mag with a BOSS system that usually leaves my ears ringing for 2 days. With these muffs, the 2 shots I made were still audible of course, but were reduced to a bearable range. I could even hear to brag to my hunting buddies when I got back to camp with my big 6 point and 30 pound bobcat...which, by the way, I would never have detected without the hearing amplification of the muffs. A great product all around...at any price. I'd recommend them to anyone.
Customer Review: A great find for a shooter. Summary: 5 Stars
Hi, I bought these to take the place of some basic ear muffs that I wore for protection on the range. I found I needed to double up my protection with the pair I had and had to wear inserted plugs as well to avoid "ringing" in my ears after the range time was done. I also envied a bit the people who could carry on a conversation while still wearing ear protection. I found them very easy to use and got used to talking with other people on the range while still having decent hearing protection.
I read numerous reviews and found that the HL R-01526 met my needs. There are more expensive products out that don't have an 82 db cut off so going with this product at a reasonable price was well worth it. I'm glad I read the reviews though since as stated by other people there are no instructions on where to put the batteries.(They go under the black panel in the side, just slide it up.) The lack of a power ON led may bother some people but I am the only one to use these so I just double check they are off when I put them away.
A very good product that I hope to use for a long time.
Customer Review: A little better than good for the price. Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this unit to replace my Peltor 97044 unit that was a bit of a PITA to maintain.
TO start what I did like was
1-that Howard Leight R-01526 Impact Sport Electronic Earmuff came with and only needed 2 AAA Batteries (less money to spend on Batteries in the long run)
2-the fact that it had a AUX jack connector and another good thing was that the power automatically shuts off after 4 hours of use.
3-the easy of use to put in the Batteries was great vs the peltors
4-fit and finish was a little better than good
now for the cons :
1- Single knob control for on /off and volume.
this was good but with the peltor I could control each side so if I wanted louder or quieter on the left or right i could not do this with the Howard Leight R-01526 .
2-the peltor did seems to work a little better with the sound and quality of sound
3-the peltors seemed a little more flush than the Howard Leight R-01526
overall for the price I think there worth the money and I would get another set if these went bad .
Customer Review: A+ hearing protection and sound amplification. Not compatible with ACH. Summary: 4 Stars
I'll make the review brief aimed at soldiers who want to use with ACH helmets.
- muffs a tad too big for wearing under the ACH helmet.
For non-military uses these are great, as they offer noticeable sound deafening when turned off, and allow sounds to pass when turned on.
Goodluck!
David
