Tools and Hardware Reviews of Howard Leight R-01526 Impact Sport Electronic Earmuff

Customer Review: Do the Job and don't cost $200
Summary: 5 Stars

I usually don't write reviews but I wanted to give a lot of other people a chance to get a good pair of ear muffs and I got these because of the reviews.
I was skeptical over the low price but figured these would do until I got a $200 pair. Well, forget the $200 pair! This is a great set of ear protectors and really great for the price. Some other things are auto shutoff so batteries don't run out, one volume control for simple adjustments, and fully adjustable ear pieces. Construction seems very good.
I qualified on the range with them; shot at targets on my property; went to a friends property where 4 of us were plinking with .380 to .45 handguns; and went deer hunting where I turned them up and heard all kinds of wildlife noises. In all cases they performed wonderfully. I am very pleased with the electronics (although a few purists say recovery is slow - but I don't notice that), the fit is good, fold up nicely for storage, and I can talk to people beside me, which is real cool. I use to come home with ears ringing, not any more.
Someday you may want the $200+ jobs, but if you want good performance that does the job, and a decent price these are the ones.

Customer Review: Does not seal
Summary: 2 Stars

I ordered this product based on the positive reviews online and the good performance specs, but without trying them on in person. BIG MISTAKE!

Problems I experienced:
1. The earcup cushions are much thinner than other headphones I have used, and I have not been able to get a good seal. This is the main problem, which causes very little sound to be blocked (shooting range).
2. The earcup cushion molding had sharp edges inside, which were very uncomfortable and cut into my ears. I had to smooth the sharp edges myself.
3. The overall shallow design of the earmuffs leaves little room inside the cushion for your ears. This also causes discomfort.

Positive points:
1. The microphones and amplification work well. In a normal room, it gives "super hearing".
2. I noticed no "dropout" of the sound amplification after a shot.
3. The foldable design is compact to carry.

Overall, I have tried to use these earmuffs several times, but each time, went back to my ordinary passive earmuffs or earplugs. I just was not able to get a good fit with these earmuffs. I am disappointed and will leave them at home the next time I visit the range.

Customer Review: Does not suppress noise at all. Caldwell E-Max worked better
Summary: 1 Stars

So I decided to try out a pair of these Howard Leights thinking that they were gonna be better than my E-Max because the Leights were more expensive. Took both to the range, brand new. I almost went deaf shooting with the Howard Leights. The E-Max, although still a bit laggish on suppressing the noise, do work. Overall though, I still prefer ear plugs since they suppress noise better than any of these ear muffs do for me.

Customer Review: Earmuffs work great!
Summary: 5 Stars

My husband asked me to buy the earmuffs so that he could block out the noise in the high school woodshop where he teaches three classes on a daily basis.
He says that he's very pleased with them. They are adjustable so that they fit his head comfortably. In the future he would like to get a radio or an ipod or some kind of music machine to plug into the earmuffs.

Customer Review: Earmuffs worth trying out
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had these earmuff for a weeks and just love it for its low profile, folding compact design, and awesome mic sensitivity and volume adjustment. The earmuff uses 2 AAA batteries which are easy to access for installation. It was a bit difficult extracting and required the aid of a small pocket knife, but that is a very minor inconvenience. The price level is great for what the earmuff has to offer. More expensive models are sometimes not that easy to change out the battery or as durable as you would expect for what you pay. Give these a serious look at.
