I attempted to attach this fan to an "old work" fan brace box that I had installed in a finished ceiling years ago. Hunter's remote control module must mount completely flush within Hunter's ceiling bracket in order for the fan canopy to contact the underside of the ceiling and attach properly. My existing fan brace box uses two long threaded bolts that extend below ceiling level and interfere with the positioning of the remote module within the fan bracket. I ended up returning the fan after several frustrating hours trying to install it.
I've installed several dozen fans over the years and have never been so frustrated by a fan. The box I was attempting to attach to has had numerous fixtures installed over the years, including ceiling fans and chandeliers, without issue. Its obvious Hunter didn't want to modify anything in their 'standard' installation hardware package to accommodate the remote receiver; thus, the 'form fitting' receiver case that has zero clearance between the mounting bracket and canopy. This fan will work fine in some instances, but not in situations where the fan brace box hardware extends even a quarter inch into the canopy area.
I returned the fan to Amazon for a full refund (nice!), and picked up a Harbor Breeze fan with remote from the local Lowe's - no more clearance problem.
