I just got this and tonight I am going to saute some garlic and onions and see if the smell goes away because so far I can not tell any difference whatsoever. I tried it last night and managed to fall asleep despite the LOUD hum even though it's set on low. I woke up coughing several times so...and I'm not sick, just need fresh air circulating.
I put it in the room at the other end of my house behind a closed door and can still hear it humming loudly.

I have had this particular air purifier for a year and a half now and have loved it! I would have given it 5 stars but the replacement filters are a bit pricey.
I have this in the room with my guinea pigs and computer and all my paper files so there is a lot of dust and dander in addition to hay that the guinea pigs eat. The room is slightly larger than recommended but it has not been a problem. The odor control is great and this is the least dusty room in the house since we bought it. It has been run non-stop for the year and a half we have had it except to change filters. On very rare occasions it will seem loud. I usually vacuum the front grill and shake it out (hay tends to fall in) and this resolves the loudness.
I am getting ready to purchase one for each of our 3 bedrooms. I would just check the filter replacement costs first and decide if you want to spend that much. Otherwise, this is a great air purifier for the price!

I p-urchased this unit from Amazon and within 3 months of intermittent use, the unit failed. It ceased to run. When it ran it as very silent and apparently effective in a small room. The quality however was wanting.Customer Review: Love this machine

We currently have four of these air cleaners in various rooms in our home since our children have allergies and asthma. The air cleaners are very quiet when run on low (which is were we leave them all the time) and not excessively loud on higher speeds. Quick set up and little maintenance. Filters are expensive, but that is true with any brand HEPA machine you purchase. We have used this model for years after trying other brands and will not go back to the others.
