Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hunter 34357 3-1/2-Gallon CareFree Plus Humidifier with PermaWick FilterCustomer Review: Excellent results with a low maintenance cost Summary: 5 Stars
I looked at those $250 humidifiers but just couldn't pull the trigger, especially since this unit is so reasonably priced, well-reviewed and has a low cost of ownership. It seems like we paid $10-$15 for each filter in our cheap Wal-Mart unit and it would need to be replaced every 2 weeks.
This machine is built well and has useful features. I like the readout that tells me the current level of humidity in my room. I like the large water tank and the sturdy filter. With the fan on high, it is too loud to sleep with and it makes noise like a small stream. However, its noise output on high is still quieter than my other evaporative humidifier on its low setting.
With this unit on low, the fan is very quiet. We like to sleep with a quiet fan on, and with this humidifier on low, I still turn our fan on so that the noise level is enough to drown out other little nighttime sounds. Just to be safe, I bought some "humidifier bacteriostatic treatment" solution to put into the base every once in a while.
Customer Review: Garbage Summary: 1 Stars
I'm on my second one. The first started making a noise,so I contacted the company. They sent me postage to send it back, and they sent me a replacement. Now the second one has the same noise, and they want me to pay the postage. Besides that they said I never sent the other one back. These people need to get a system. I'm not sending this back since they want me to pay the postage. I'm just hoping it doesn't start a fire or something. The noise is on and off.I will never buy another Hunter product. It's not a good product. Save your money.
Customer Review: Going on our 3rd year of usage Summary: 5 Stars
This humidifier has been great to us so far. Easy to use. We've had no leaks or troubles. We also enjoy the 'white noise' of the fan at night. The blue glow is neat, too. The first two years we used our very hard spring water. This will be the first year with softened water, so we'll see how it goes.(I think a little hardness is necessary?) Much less messy than the cheap ones. The tank, when full, might be heavy for some to lug around, but the good thing is it has a handle and it won't spill while you're carrying it. I'd definitely recommend, and if I need another one, would go with the same one-even though it's a little pricey in my opinion. I enjoy all its features too much to go without.
Customer Review: Good machine; bad himidistat Summary: 3 Stars
This machine does a more than adequate job of himidifying the air in my home but the humidistat either arrived broken or broke chortly after I started using it. In any case, the machine will not automatically regulate itself as it's supposed to do. I have to check the himidity levels with another device and manually turn it on and off. Hunter says to return the machine to Amazon for a replacement and Amazon says I need the original packaging, which I no longer have. Not the best return policies around but at least the machine does its basic job.
Customer Review: Great Product Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned one of these for about 4 years and it continues to perform wonderfully. The water tank is easy to remove, fill and return to the humidifier. I have a humidistat in my house and the results were increased relative humitidy from 33% (very dry) to the recommended 42%. Big help for those with sinus and, or allergy issues. The "permafilter" will eventually have to be replaced but not until after several years of use (depending on the water supply).
