I purchased this product following a recommendation from Consumer Reports and extensively reading consumer comments on Amazon. We are VERY pleased with the thermostat! My husband was a little bit anxious on whether he could replace the unit himself (decided to do it on a weekday so that back-up could be called if needed). He was surprised how easy it was to replace the unit.
We especially like the automatic change-over between heat and A/C. Since it's not uncommon in the fall to go from very chilly nights to very warm days, we were constantly shifting the thermostat back and forth. With this unit, you no longer have to do that. You simply set your heat temperature for wake-up, leave the house, return home, go to bed, and then do the same with your A/C temperature. The unit automatically engages the right unit at the right time -- it's amazing!
Also, the unit is very easy to program and does NOT make any noises when it turns on and off. This is an excellent choice -- you won't be disappointed!
1/7/2011: Product Update - we are still thrilled with these thermostats, have not had a single issue with them. Still rate it 5 stars.

I've never installed a thermostat before, but I read the manual that came with this thermostat and it gave me all the information I needed to install & program this thermostat. I like the scheduled "comfort" times - it turns up the heat before I go to work and before I get home, and leaves it low the rest of the time. I like the "home today" feature - with one touch you can override the programmed times so it stays nice and comfortable all day. Definitely a great value for ~$40!Customer Review: Excellent!!!

This thermostat was so easy to hook up I almost can't believe I did it myself. Works exactly as described. Just a few quirky things about it:
1. If you pull the face off to access the back panel, you end up having to reprogram all the settings you entered.
2. I'm pretty sure you have to program 2 time periods for each day or set of days, ie for Monday through Friday 6AM-8AM and 7PM-11PM. I only want it to go on in the evening so I have to enter the evening setting twice.
A cool feature is that it will get your house to the temperature you want just before the time that you entered. So if you want your house to heat up to 70 at 7PM, the thermostat figures out what time to actually kick on the heat so that it's at 70 by 7PM. You can also disable this feature.

We purchased two of these items for our new house. We live in Arizona, so we need to have these to adjust for the hot afternoons.
Upon opening it, it looks like a nice product. We were excited to try it! My husband (who is a handyman and knows what he is doing) installed it, and it took FOREVER!!! Not sure what the difference was, but it was probably due to the one that we removed. There was one set of extra wires on the house side. There were no directions that talked about this, so we searched all over the net to try and find information on this. There was no info at all! He finally figured it out and was able to get it to work.
In all, we were happy with it, but not sure as to what the difficulties with our installation was.
