Tools and Hardware Reviews of ITW Space Bag BRS-8225 Vacuum-Seal Storage Bags, Set of 2, MediumCustomer Review: Fear not -- these bags work -- just follow the directions. Summary: 5 Stars
I always read reviews before purchasing a product, but I came away from the ITW reviews believing Amazon carried a different product than that I had used before. I have purchased Space bags direct from the manufacturer previously and loved them. While managing a small motel with 32 rooms, we purchased 25 Jumbo Space Bags to store 65 queen-sized quilted bedspreads. We used the bags first to store our winter bedspreads, then our summer ones. 24 of 25 bags stayed air-free for the six month period before we swapped bedspreads. They were then used for the next season. Again, 24 bags remained compressed for another six months.
Having read the somewhat unfavorable reviews, I thought that perhaps Amazon carried another brand than the one I had used. However, I could order exactly the size of bag I wanted from Amazon, with free shipping and a known time for delivery -- none of which is possible from www.spacebags.com. So, I bought my bags from Amazon and was delighted to find that I had bought the product that had worked so well for me in the past.
I recommend ITW Space Bags without reservation. One failure of 25 bags used twice (they are still in service so maybe they will make four or five cycles) represents a 4% failure rate. None of my current order failed to compress and stay compressed for 48 hours. (If they are going to fail, air leakage seems to happen in the first 24 hours.) Read the instructions and love the space this product creates!
Customer Review: Good but.. Summary: 3 Stars
I ordered several of these bags in large and medium. They mostly worked out fine except there must have been a defective one in each lot as one of each did not hold the vacuumed air. The medium one burst at the seam when the zipper tab ran over it. Don't know why the large did not hold the vacuum. All in all, this is a pretty nifty product when it works.
Customer Review: Space Bag is Alright Summary: 3 Stars
I bought Space Bag to, of course, save space. My closet is crammed with blankets and towels, and I needed the room for other items. I also bought Space Bag for easier travelling. I purchased the large cube-shaped bags, the kind where the air can be either pushed out or vacuumed. The statement, "Triple Your Space," tempted me to buy it. I tested it with my down comforter, pillows, and towels. It really does work with the comforter because it flattened to a pancake. It definitely decreased triply in size. When I opened it up, it was still fluffy, but unfortunately wrinkly. I also experimented with pillows. I could only fit two in a bag, one made of down, the other cotton. Again, it became flat as a pancake. The towels did not work so well because the material is so dense compared to feathers. I also noticed how significantly heavier the items were after being condensed in the Space Bag; however, it is easier to carry.
Helpful hint: Before compressing the air out, make sure that both zippers are securely sealed.
After each test, I threw the Space Bag in the bathtub for a minute. I opened it later to find that every item inside was completely dry. In conclusion, if you have many fluffy down comforters taking up space and are in danger of getting wet, then this product is perfect for you.
Customer Review: Space Bags Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased several different sizes of the space bags. They do decrease the size of space used to store items. However, I was extremely surprised when the seal was vacuumed up into my vacuum cleaner hose, making the space bag a giant zip lock bag, without making the volume smaller. Not only that, my vacuum cleaner hose is now useless and has to be brought in to be repaired because it seems that the seal's diameter must be very close to the diameter of the vacuum cleaner hose! Amazon did replace the product, but I will be out of pocket for the repair of the hose and the fact that I can't use my vacuum cleaner until I get the hose repaired.
Customer Review: Space bags waste of money Summary: 1 Stars
If you are trying to gain space, these bags fail about 25% of the time. That's 1/4 of the time. You can't stack them, they slip of each other, and have to to buy storage bins to keep them in. That's what I was trying to avoid in the first place. They also make your clothes and other fabric items smell bad. I wasted a lot of money. I went back to cardboard boxes to store things.
