Tools and Hardware Reviews of Inova T4-WB 175 Lumen Rechargeable LED Flashlight, Black

Customer Review: Good Light, but still somewhat disappointed
Summary: 4 Stars

I own many LED lights, among them the new Streamlight Stinger LED DS, the Pelican 7060, several Surefires, and I just added the Inova T4 light rated at 175 lumens to my collection. Overall it is a good light, and it'll do just fine, but I am disappointed because it still does not match up to my new Stinger LED, nor my Pelican 7060. This light is rated at 175 lumens, so I expected it to blow away my 7060 (rated at 135), and my Stinger LED (rated at 140). It did not outperform either of these lights.

Pros:

-Slick, metallic body, has the good looks, and it has that "right fit" in your hand. This light is not as bulky or heavy as other rechargeables.

-This light IS very bright, but what disappointed me is that it does not have the "throw" is claims to have. The beam of this light does not travel very far. Its light beam has a huge diameter, and will light up a huge area, but it certainly will not light up something 300 feet away. Maybe someone 300 feet away will SEE your light, but the light will not illuminate something at 300 feet for you to SEE it that good.

-The light is rechargeable, so you will save money on batteries in the long run.

-The light can run on High mode, Low Mode, momentary on, and the latest models also have a STROBE function, which works great to disorient someone in the dark in case you need it for self defense.

-The charger works great, I don't know why a lot of people complain about it. It even has a small light that will be red to indicate that the light is charging, and will turn green when the light is fully charged. You can leave the light in its charger for as long as you want without the fear of damaging the battery.

Cons:

-The reflector needs improvement so that the beam can travel further and actually illuminate objects at 300 feet. The LED itself is great, it just needs some work on the reflector, so that the beam could be guided.

This is pretty much the only bad thin about it. If INOVA uses a better reflector, this will indeed be one of the best lights, perhaps outperforming the Stinger LEDs and Pelicans.

Customer Review: Great Light!

First, for those who have had an issue charging the light and got the flashing blue light when on the charger, the problem is most likely a bad electrical connection. Unscrew the battery end and clean the silver colored, unanodized, end of the cap to remove any grease that is hindering an electrical connection. The cap is part of the electrical system and any grease between the cap and the body of the light will mess with the connection. Also, clean the charging contacts on the light with a pencil eraser (just rub it like you are erasing)...This will clean off any gunk that could be messing with the connection. I've had charging issues and this is all it takes to correct them.

With all that said, I love this light. Constant output for 2 hours, unlike Mag and Streamligh lights that dim after a few minutes and continued to yellow out. This is a pure while light, with no artifacts in the beam....meaning its a nice even illumination tool. It's not cheap, but you are paying for quality. I have used mine for about 6 months, in rain, fog, complete darkness, indoors, outdoors.....and it just performs without question. You can not go wrong with it.

Lastly, if you are going to buy the T4, buy the new version that Inova is releasing this spring of '08. The output went up from 125 lumens to 175 lumens.....for those not familiar with light ratings, it is one heck of an increase! Try it and you will not be disappointed.

Customer Review: Great light
Summary: 5 Stars

A great light. It can go a good while in between charges. It is so bright that you can not look directly at the bulb when lit. It does a good job of lighting up the darkness as well. It's compact shape and weight are perfect and it is the perfect size to fit in a sap pocket. The head of the light protrudes out of the sap pocket perfectly so no other holder is needed. Good duty light.

I purchased the T-4 in late 2005, and have been very happy with it. I use this light for work, and I enjoy the powerful beam that this light emits. It has a long range, and I believe that the 300' range the manufacturer advertises is accurate. The T4 is powered by a Luxeon LED - I like LEDs because they are energy efficient and are not susceptible to breaking upon impact like regular bulbs. The body is very strong - I dropped it many times and also had to use it as an impact weapon - and the aircraft aluminum body only has a few light scratches to show for it. My only gripe is that the beam does not have enough "spill" and there isn't a flood function - but the new 2007 model addressed this issue somewhat with the addition of a reflector to the flashlight head, creating a decent amount of spill. Though I was happy with my light, I ordered the 2007 model because I wanted the improvements they made and am very satisfied with it. The charging system, which was excellent to begin with, has been improved to where it is easier to line up with charging cradle with the flashlight. The light on the charger turns blue while charging, and turns green when it is fully charged. I like the fact that this flashlight uses a lithium ion battery, because it doesn't have memory problems like nickel cadmium and charges much faster. Some of my colleagues use Streamlight Stingers for work, which use Nickel Cadmium batteries; and while they get 1 hour of light and have to charge 8 hours, I get 2 hours of light and have to charge 2 hours with the Li-Ion battery in the T-4. Overall, I am very pleased with this light, from it's build quality, performance, and packaging. I haven't had any problems with the flashlight so far, so I cannot rate the customer service from Inova since I never had to contact them.

Customer Review: Great light!!!!! Highly recomended!!!

This Light is extremely bright for the small size. It charges well and lasted over two hours without dimming and that was straight out of the box. I like the rugged body which seems to be indistructable. The only reason I gave it a four was because every once and a while it wll not come on so I unscrew the cap a little and it lights up. I think it is a connection problem and after reading the review by Patrick, I probably just need to clean the contacts.
