Customer Review: Careful with compact fluorescents

The timer is electronic and works well with incandescent lighting. The reviews differ on using this timer with compact fluorescents, and the labeling states that it is NOT compatible.
Like many other electronic timers, it appears to "leak" current through the circuit even when off. That's ok with incandescents and the old magnetic ballasts, but CF with electronic ballasts flash when the switch is off.
A workaround if there is more than one bulb: include one ordinary incandescent bulb in the circuit (40 watt may be the minimum), and the compact fluorescents stop flashing.
Customer Review: Cheaper to leave your lights on 24 hours a day

This switch cannot be used with compact fluorescent lights (CFs or CFLs). Some of you might think it's severe to give a switch 1 star just becuase of that, but do the math: it would actually save you more than 50% on your electric bill to leave a CF bulb on 24 hours a day than to used this switch with a 19th century incandescent bulb!!!
For 100W equivalent over one day:
24h * 23W = 0.552kWh for CF
12h (average) * 100W = 1.200kWh (average) for incandescent
Save you money: don't buy this switch and leave your lights on all day. Or better yet, buy a Swylite LST100 which does work with CF lights.

CAUTION! This device does NOT work with compact fluorescent bulbs! If you hope to save energy with this you will be very disappointed. It is also VERY hard to program.
The only good thing I can say about it is that it is white, and it is flush mounted. I really feel as if I was taken for a ride.

I've owned this timer before, and it worked for a few years. The one I replaced it with worked for about 2 months then started flickering before burning out completely. Contacted Intermatic, faxed the proper paperwork for the 1-year warranty to be honored but it was rejected (?!) with no reason given. The customer service reps were no help either. (FYI - the company has been bought out by Malibu Lighting). Thankfully Amazon replaced the item with no hassles as always! Haven't installed the replacement yet...
