Tools and Hardware Reviews of Intermatic EJ500C Indoor Digital Wall Switch TimerCustomer Review: Does not know about new DST dates Summary: 4 Stars
This device is cool, but now out-of-date, as it does not know the new dates for changing to DST, as we just have, three weeks earlier than before in the sping, and switching back to standard time one week later in the fall. The Intermatic website says 2007 is a test year for this so they will probably not produce a new version of this switch until 2008. This means that you have to switch it to DST yourself and back, which is just twice a year. Or, you could let it be out-of sync for those transition 4 weeks total per year, and keep on using the auto feature for DST.
Customer Review: Doesnt work with Energy Saver Light Bulbs Summary: 2 Stars
This product is great if your using regular Incandescent Bulbs but not if your using fluorescent. If this is not the case it works well I gave it low rating because of this.
Customer Review: Don't buy it Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased my first EJ500 switch in May 2007. It lasted until October when it failed and was replaced by Intermatic. The replacement lasted one week. If the above doesn't convince you, I also had (past tense) an Intermatic ST01 in a different application, purchased from Ganesburg Electric. They replaced that timer three times -- that's four failed timers. They kindly, unlike Amazon, refunded my full purchase price. I will never knowingly purchase an Intermatic brand device again.
Customer Review: Easy Installation, Poor Operation Summary: 1 Stars
Pros:
Installation was very easy and it looks great as a flush-mount. Turns on as according to the program
Cons:
The lights do not turn off according to the program. I woke up on several mornings to see that my patio lights were still on despite the program telling it to turn off at 2:00am. I've gone through the entire manual, reset the device and reprogrammed but nothing. Now it's on the wall but I keep the program off. Didn't work out very well for me at all.
Customer Review: Excellent item.. Summary: 5 Stars
After over 18months now of replacing all outside switch points with these types i'm pleased for one reason alone, i've not touched them since.
Save energy? no not the reason why i put them in, it was security, being out and now the lights come, at different times because of the daylight saving adjustments, also the clocks are staggerd by 1 min, to give the impression each outsid elight is being turned on by hand, stunning.
Now odd that others have raised concerns over CFL, i've not had any problems with quality CFL Bug bulbs at all, however, if that is a problem and you really want to save money, then skip CFL and purchase LED, ours use 1.5watts and have not been replaced once in the 10-12 mths, compared to the CFL's which really are not reliable.
Also, setting up is easy, if you've have problems, then you really shouldn't be wiring these in yourself if your unable to follow the instructions, my guess is if you unable to press setup, then set the time, then the region, then dayligth savings YES, then on = DUSK, off = DAWN, then you might have problems, send it back and use a normal switch, to save complication.
Well made, very well presented unit, worth every penny.
