We use this timer for outdoor low-voltage lighting. For years we've hassled with changing a standard timer with the changing sunrise and sunset. This timer solved that problem. No more of either having the lights on while it's still light out, or having them off when it's dark. Traditional timers do allow you to have a fixed "off" time, but with no way to adjust for the changing dusk time. Using this unit also avoids the unreliability of photo sensors.
The downside... the programming is a bit funky, and it seems that if you make a mistake you have to start over each time just to get back to fix the mistake. But, once it's set, it seems to work great.
Description of Intermatic HB800RCH 15-AMP 7-Day Outdoor Digital Timer
Use the Intermatic HB800RCH Outdoor Digital Timer to automatically control security lighting, engine block heaters, pool pumps, and many other devices. The Timer adjusts to sunrise and sunset times for dusk/dawn settings. The color will blend into the landscape and the Timer is weatherproof to be used outdoors. With up to 28 On/Off settings and a manual override On/Off knob the Timer is very customizable for the user.
