I bought a number of these for the obvious reason of providing emergency lighting in a power failure. Regrettably, most of them were defective and didn't work at all. It would be a useful device were it not for the sloppy manufacturing.Customer Review: Glad I bought these before the storm of '06!

I had one of these for YEARS, when it finally died (no fault of its own, it was old). I LOVED it. Was very handy. So, I was quite excited to find them here on Amazon, so I bought 5 of them. 1 for the powder room, the kids bathroom, and various hallway outlets. I'm glad I got them when I did, because a few weeks later, the 'Blast of 2006' knocked out power all over the PNW. These came in SO handy when the power went out in the middle of the night. By placing them in the hallways and bathrooms, it was easy to find my way for that 'late night run'.
Don't expect the battery to last a LONG time on each charge, as they don't, which is why I give them 4 stars instead of 5. They are a short term convenience, but oh such a nice convenience. The fact that they double as a night night when the power is on is an added bonus.
Make sure you get enough for all the bathrooms and hallways! And, when the power goes out, turn them off to save battery life.

These lights provide enough light to see by when the power goes out. They don't light up the house so you can read, but they aren't meant to. We have several around the house and when the power goes off we can navigate the stairs and see what we are doing just fine. I like the switch on/off and the plug through features also. An absolute must if you have small children who get scared when the power goes out!Customer Review: Good product!

Among the various similar offerings on Amazon, I liked this the best mainly because of the pass-thru outlet. Having purchased 14 of them so far I am very pleased with them. They make good night lights, emergency power failure lights, and occasional flashlights. Their flashlight beams are pretty weak, but would be welcome in a black-out situation. I have not tried any LED based units, which might work better as flashlights, because none of them had the pass-through outlet. For me, the additional outlet was the deciding factor in choosing this one. One of my 14 units arrived defective. Have not had them long enough to know how long they will last before needing replacement.
