Tools and Hardware Reviews of JDS Company 14043 Cyclone-II 3000-CK 3 Horsepower 2,050 CFM Cyclone Dust Collector, 220-Volt 1 Phase

Customer Review: Work as advertise, questionable design for the canister.
Summary: 3 Stars

I purhcased this tool several months ago.
Assembly was ok despite a poor decumentation expect for the canister (I will get back on that later). Attaching the filter was a little akward, good thing I have small fingers.
You do need some help to lift the cyclone in the up position. I was able to lift it up with the help of only one helper but I don't recommend.

The canister is the part that I really don't like in this product. It is a clear plastic bag that is clamped on top of metal framing. Even though I follow the instructions carefully, the first time I powered up the machine, the bag got sucked in with so much pressure that it poped out of the clamp. I figured I didn't clamp it hard enough so after pulling with all my strength and managing to clamp it as far as it goes I powered up the machine again. This time not only the bag poped out of the clamp but it got cut off at the same time. I left a message a JDS and receive a call the next day. I explained my situation and the guy on the phone confirmed that they encouter similar issues when testing the machine and that they solved the issue by positioning the clamp above a piece of foam (not on top as I did). If you look at the manual you can see that the piece of foam as been added afterward by hand and was clearly not part of the original design of the machine. In anycase, the support of JDS was helpfull and I received promptly some free bags.
Because I didn't trust the foam trick, I now always put a large piece of duct tape around my bags before clamping (just in case).
I still have the fear that one bag will pop out one of those day so I will eventually replace the canister with a solid version.

I still give this items 3 starts because this cyclone does really suck hard. I have a combination sanding machine at the end of one my duct and even on the spindle I can't see much dust escaping.

A better documentation and a solid canister would probably make it a 5 start tool.
