Customer Review: Inferior Ratchet Suspension

There is nothing wrong with the design of the hat, the classic style with a slightly curved rim and a Smith&Wesson logo looks good. The hat also feels solid. The problem is the ratchet suspension, which is inferior, and makes this hat a very bad choice if you need a hard hat to work in and to protect your head.
After having tightened the ratchet firmly around my head it immidiately becomes clear that my head is too big for the design (my head is 7 1/2"). The back of my head touches the two rear ratchet holders in the hat, which is highly uncomfortable. By adjusting the ratchet I manage to make it a little bit less uncomfortable. However, after having adjusted the ratchet, the ratchet does not stick very well to the holders in the hat, making it easy for the whole ratchet suspension to come of the hat.
The third problem is the tightening of the ratchet. I can not get the hat very tight around my head. A clicking sound, like the plastic cogs inside slips, is the result when I try to tight it. I tested it in a Fast Rescue Craft, crusing in about 30 knots and were not very comfortable at all with it, as it felt like the hat was going to blow of my head and possibly hurt someone else in the boat.
I use hard hats on a daily basis in my line of work and would definately not recommend this hat for any type of work that requires a hard hat. This hat may comply with some standards/requirements but should only be considered as a gimmick and nothing else.
