Tools and Hardware Reviews of Jiffy Steamer J-2000 Residential Series 1300-Watt Garment SteamerCustomer Review: Doesn't do much Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this based on the positive reviews here. Here's my experience. It definitely does not approach an iron as far as making your clothes looking sharp, finished. It sort of takes some wrinkles out of some types of clothes. Even after "pressing", your clothes still look a little rumpled.
Forget about using this on any type of heavy fabric like pants or knit shirts. The only thing I found it did ok (and only ok) were light-weight cotton shirts.
I would say it's faster for sure but I'm returning it. It just doesn't do the job.
Customer Review: Don't bother purchasing this steamer Summary: 2 Stars
I found using this steamer on a garment actually took longer than it would have ironing it. Also, water would drip from the wand when the steam was coming out. The water droplets would leave water stains on my garments. I returned this item.
Customer Review: Don't let the name fool you, it works great. Summary: 5 Stars
First, when was the last time you saw a home appliance made in the USA? I don't know, maybe when dinosaurs ruled the Earth. The company name sounds rather corny in this day and age but apparently, Jiffy Corporation has been making these types of devices since the 1940's. This steamer really works quite well!
Two very tough initial tests were a micro-fiber jacket and some all-cotton polo shirts. The unit heated up quickly and was ready for operation in about five minutes. With the various items on a hanger attached to the steamer's tall vertical hanging rod, the process of getting all the wrinkles out took maybe three or four minutes for each garment. They looked great and actually felt softer than before the steaming began. This is much easier than ironing and the look is similar. If you want your starched collar and cuffs on that dress shirt, get out the ironing board and can of starch or better yet, take your clothes to be pressed at the dry cleaners. This steamer is designed to remove wrinkles not press your clothes. I had a number of shirts and slacks to be donated to a charity, the Jiffy 2000 got me through the process quickly and efficiently. As the garment is being steamed, if you hold the bottom edge and give a gentle pull as you're moving the steam head, it makes for a quicker job. The polo shirts looked like they were just off the rack from a store...impressive.
The Jiffy 2000 is American made, solid and well built. Every item from water tank, base unit, hose, and steam head are very rugged in construction and should last for years. The hose's connector and the base unit's connector are both heavy duty brass fittings. The vertical pole that holds the garment and hose is made of solid aluminum round stock. This whole unit is rugged and overbuilt much like an industrial-grade power tool. I've gone to stores to compare it with other brands and the competition's steamers look like cheap toys in comparison.
I've read some of the other comments about the Jiffy and can't understand how people can have problems with this unit. Yes, the hose gets hot because there's hot steam traveling through it, that's why they call it a steamer. As for the owners who seem to have trouble burning themselves with the hose or with the steam, again, take your clothes to the dry cleaners. All the hose fittings fit fine and the unit does not spit water if used properly. Here's a little advice to those out there that seem to have troubles with anything mechanical or electrical..."R.T.I." (Read The Instructions). The "instructions" are the paper "thing" that comes in the box but is used as a coaster for your soda can while you're busy screwing and attaching all the wrong pieces into the wrong parts.
This is by far on of the best home appliance purchases I've ever made. It does what it claims to do, simplifies the task at hand, and should last for years. Absolutely no regrets with this product.
Customer Review: Easier than ironing Summary: 5 Stars
I would highly recommend this item. Easy to use. Works great.
Customer Review: Everyone needs one of these! Summary: 5 Stars
What a great purchase! I've had mine for several months now. This is a great little steamer. Solid construction. Easy to use. I'm new to steaming and I had no idea how effective it is. It's perfect for those relaxed fabrics, just wave the wand over it a few times and all the wrinkles are gone. The permanent press type stuff, like dress pants and dress shirts are a little more trickey, but still way easier than ironing. If you want a crease, put it on your ironing board and use it like an iron. It's very effective at removing odors, even smoke. It's also great for furniture, drapes, sanitize your mattress, pillows, etc. Watch your fingers though, that steam is HOT!
