Tools and Hardware Reviews of Jiffy Steamer J-2000 Residential Series 1300-Watt Garment Steamer

Customer Review: Excellent steamer
Summary: 5 Stars

I had a Jiffy handheld steamer for travel and found myself using it at home frequently because it's so much easier than ironing. The handheld version is great but not quite powerful enough for everyday use so I decided to invest in the full size and it was the best laundry-related purchase I ever made. This steamer is high quality, the base is balanced and the pole is very steady, even with a heavy garment hung on it. I steam everything from featherweight silk blouses to heavy wool suits with ease. I don't bother with creases but I think they would be easy with a steam board. The steamer doesn't sputter or spit hot water and is ready to use in 2 minutes with a powerful, steady flow of steam. I use it every morning and probably fill it up once a week. I still burn myself occasionally trying to get my hands too close but that's my own laziness in not using an oven mitt. Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Excellent!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had the Jiffy J-2000 steamer for about 3 months now and love it. I initially had some trouble with steaming my thumbs (ouch!), but have learned how to maneuver better since then. I wouldn't recommend children use this product due to the potential for serious burns (but that is a great testament to how powerful this thing steams!). It is fantastic for ironing my husbands business shirts. Before, I dreaded this until I had about 20 shirts lined up, needing to be ironed. I've wasted many Saturdays at the ironing board. I can now have a beautiful, completely wrinkle-free shirt in about 2 minutes (I've timed myself!). It does take a little practice to learn how to stabilize the clothes while steaming (they try to run away from you), but it has been an excellent purchase for me.

Customer Review: Excellent.. Well worth the month...
Summary: 5 Stars

I would have to rate the Jiffy J-2000 steamer as excellent. It works great, heats up in less than 1 minute and lasts well over an hour before you need to refill. It is the perfect size for home use, and very well made. It is definitely much faster than ironing. I am glad I spent a little extra money to buy the Jiffy Brand compared to some of the cheaper models you see at the local stores. You get what you pay for!

Customer Review: Fades wrinkles, does not free them (they're still trapped there)
Summary: 2 Stars

I was disappointed when receiving this steamer. First of all let me say, I dislike ironing simply b/c it takes forever. I'm not even looking for that crisp creased look. However, when I'm done ironing hours later, I know my items will be wrinkle free. I hoped that would've been the case with this steamer, no wrinkles shorter amount of time. Sadly that it was not. It took forever to steam each of my garments, then when I was done, the wrinkles were not gone, just faded. I tried this on different types of fabrics (silk, satin, cotton, polyester blends, etc) and it was all the same (faded, still there wrinkles) except for one pair of wool pants where the wrinkles magically faded.

After trying this out for a week using different fabrics and techniques, the only thing that improved was using this steamer with another person. Just holding the clothes steady to steam against the wall doesn't work well. Having another person hold the clothes taut for you while you steam works the best, except when you accidently steam the other person and they don't want to help much anymore.

Pros: holds plenty of water for lots of steam, has wheels to carry around, feels sturdy, good for heavy fabrics and great for wool

Cons: wheels don't lock (moves too much), hose gets hot, spurts a bit even when held correctly, didn't leave items wrinkle free for me unless someone held clothes taut while I steamed.

Sadly I borrowed a cheap conair steamer from a friend and it worked slightly better than this item, it got the wrinkles off of my delicate shirts which was all I wanted.

Customer Review: Fantastic
Summary: 5 Stars

My clothing is mostly cotton, linen, silk, rayon, and untailored. Very little wool and no synthetics. I don't like pressed creases and like fabrics that are crinkled. When they're ironed, they don't look right. With this steamer I can take out the wrinkles and leave in the crinkles. As someone noted, it is fantastic for things I wouldn't have thought of ironing, like tee shirts. They look perfect in under a minute.

I also got the steamboard Jiffy 0892A Steamboard Vertical Garment Ironing Board and I'm hoping to be able to do my husband's shirts with that.

I find the best way to operate the machine, for the fabrics I have, is to open the garment and pass the steamer, facing me, from top to bottom on one side of the garment at a time, guiding the fabric above with my left hand.

Be careful because the hose gets hot; I have inadvertently touched it when repositioning my hand. I have gotten a couple of "oh, ouch" burns, and you should expect to when learning, but there is possibility for serious injury, namely: When steaming from the underside, especially pants and sleeves, be careful with the steam that will tent up inside. It dissipates almost instantly when it hits the air, but if you stick your hand in it before it does, you could get burned.

This steamer has changed the landscape of my closet and is well worth the price.
