Tools and Hardware Reviews of Kawasaki 840088 10-Million Candle Power Spot Light, Green

Customer Review: Big Green Nasty
Summary: 4 Stars

Sure. It's about the size and weight of a basketball full of water, but look on the bright side--never AT the bright side--this things works great! It easily lights up objects a quarter mile away and automatically shuts off charging when full. What more do you need?

Re: replacement bulbs. Automotive bulbs fit, but illuminate differently. They have built-in opaque front shielding, and the low beam is pretty much useless. They don't really do "spot" very well. However, the high beam works. You still have an extremely bright flashlight.

Customer Review: Bright, penetrating, intuitive and lasting.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a close to perfect as spotlights go. It works even better than it looks and it will turn heads and generate a few smiles..."mine's bigger than yours" But one of the terrific but subtle features is that the charging circuit turns itself off. If you've tried some of the others, you know how easy they are to overcharge because you have to "guess" how long to charge them. And it IS bright and easily lights things up a quarter mile away. I have two. If you're going to carry it for any distance though, you'll want to use the included strap; it's very solid.

Update: I stand corrected by another reviewer. The charging circuit does not turn itself off. I made the error of assuming that when the charging light went out, it opened the charging circuit. Not true. And the charger may be part of the problem some reviewers seem to have. The charger is rated at 15V, 500 ma output. That's 7.5 watts. When the battery is fully discharged, the input to the charger is 15 to 17 watts. Yes, that's input not output, so the output will be less. When fully charged, the input continues to fluctuate between 6 and 7 watts. So for parts of the charging cycle at least, the charger is probably pushing against its max rating. It's too much trouble to measure the actual charger output, sorry.

On the other hand, I'm going on two years with the two lights I have. No way for me to measure the brightness, and I have no frame of reference for 10 million candle power. The two I have are bright, charge consistently after two years and last with a bright light for 22 to 25 minutes. Too bad there seems to be so much inconsistency in the quality as delivered.

Customer Review: Dim wit
Summary: 2 Stars

Nowhere near as bright as a lamp of this size should be - sent it back. there are others out there with more stars that work better.
It also didn't hold a charge well... We couldn't figure out how something so massive, with such a huge reflector, and heavy battery could be so dim and die so quickly...

Customer Review: Good and Bright Flashlight
Summary: 4 Stars

I really like this flash light. I can still hardly believe how bright it is.

Customer Review: Good luck on a replaement bulb
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased this light for camping and walking my dog at night. When I first received it I noticed that it is the exact light listed on other websites for only $39.99 except it is Kawasaki green. I used the light that night and was pleased with the performance. They claim 10 Million CWP but seems about as bright as my 5 Million CWP hand held. It's still plenty bright and the shoulder strap makes it much easier to handle when walking. I use high performance head light bulbs in all my vehicles and know the life expectancy isn't that long, so I started searching for a replacement H4 40/80 watt bulb. Yes I said that correctly an H4 "40/80 watt". This is not a typical automotive bulb so you may be a bit challenged to find a replacement. I have found 55/100 watt bulbs that will fit, but this will just shorten the battery life. I'm going to contact All Trade to see about a replacement bulb, but I'm sure it will be cheaper to purchase a new light... I little frustrating.
