Tools and Hardware Reviews of Kidde KN-COEG-3 Nighthawk Plug-In Carbon Monoxide and Explosive Gas Alarm with Battery Backup

Customer Review: Batter Killer
Summary: 2 Stars

I have had two of these units in the last 8 years. The product life is 7 to 8 years per Kidde, the manufacturer. After 7+ years of use they will go on "Err" error and will not reset but must be replaced. Both units tended to drain and kill 9V backup batteries rather quickly; i.e. 2 weeks to 6 months. This happened while constantly connected to AC with no apparent reason. The battery low chirp noise always seemed to happen in the wee-small hours of the morning on a workday. If you purchase it, I hope yours is kinder to backup batteries than my two units.Kidde KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk Plug-In Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Battery Backup and Digital Display

Customer Review: Battery eater
Summary: 3 Stars

Even you plug this thing into the electrical outlet you have to put a battery in it for a backup in case of power failure. The thing justs eats batteries even when it is plugged in. After one month after putting a battery in it. It ends up chirping in the middle of the night to let me know it has a low battery. I thought I just take the battery out and plug it back in. No it continuely chirps even when it is plugged in, so I have to end up pulling the plug. That is the reason I bought it so I didn't have to buy batteries.

Customer Review: Best Alarm with a few problems, but with a responsive company
Summary: 4 Stars

We bought this alarm about one and a half years ago. For a while we had no problems at all. It even detected a leak when the line that supplied the gas to our stove cracked. Then we started getting false GAS alarms in the early morning hours. They would happen about 3-4 times a week. After a thorough inspection, we felt certain that these alarms were indeed false. I called KIDDE after reading this suggestion from other reviews. The customer service rep, Kathryn, was very helpful, professional and concerned. She sent us a replacement within 10 days, and we mailed the defective unit back to her for inspection.

Almost all products can have defects, but very few companies actually respond in a professional, quick manner. There is no better alarm out there, and Kidde has proven to be a responsible company.

Customer Review: Best Available
Summary: 5 Stars

Amazingly sensitive, the best available according to my local firemen. Called the fire dept. to investigate a gas warning with no obvious problem in the house. The firemen using their sniffer found a battery three floors away on a charger releasing traces of hydrogen gas. They were amazed.

Customer Review: CO2/Gas Detector
Summary: 4 Stars

Easy to install and seems to pass all tests without problem. It is convenient that one can mount the detector at the proper height in a room. I will only know if it really works when I have a gas or CO2 problem.
