Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lasko 5812 Automatic Air-Flow Heater with Temperature-Regulation SystemCustomer Review: Excellent Summary: 5 Stars
I'm so happy with this heater it doesn't take long to warm the room at all. I don't have to put it past med. and it keeps the room nice and toasty.
Customer Review: Excellent quality, great features, auto-shut off when tipped Summary: 5 Stars
OK. Listen carefully. YOU SHOULD NEVER RUN A SPACE HEATER LIKE THIS UNATTENDED OR WHILE SLEEPING. It's just inherently a bad idea. Look, I understand that if you WERE going to do this, that the regulation system on this heater would be a deal breaker. Yes, it doesn't shut off when the air temperature gets above the dial "set point", it only throttles back the heat output to 750 watts. So yes, if you want the kind of heater that will shut totally off when it reaches a certain temperature, then this unit isn't for you.
My wife and I have owned many different heaters over the years. Four, in fact. And one of them had a digital temperature regulation that would shut off automatically at the set point. It was a nightmare. I hated it. I had to cycle through about five different modes sometimes just to shut the thing off. There wasn't a separate dial or input for the temp. You just kept pushing a button and it would go something like this: High 60F setting, High 70F, High 80F, Low 60F, Low 70F, and so on, and finally to off. It was just annoying and poorly made. And we never used the temperature set point control! It was useless. The Lasko is so much better. In my experience, when it switches down to 750 watts, the temperature of the room then stays pretty constant, only slowly rising, giving you plenty of time to turn off the heater before it gets too hot. If 750 watts is way too much heat input for your room, then you really don't NEED a space heater anyway! Moving on . . .
This Lasko heater is BY FAR the best of all the heaters we've owned. And, let me tell you, we use these things a lot during the winter, as our heat is from a manually wood-fired water reservoir that our landlord may or may not keep hot enough to ensure our apartment stays at a reasonable temperature. The build quality of this heater is excellent. Only the sides of the enclosure are plastic, all the rest of it is metal. The switch and temperature dial are sturdy and good quality and easy to actuate. The back has a hand hold recess for easy carrying, and the cord is heavy duty and rugged. The unit has four feet that extend the footprint slightly and ensure better stability than its slim side profile would suggest. Fit and finish are good. It's just a well made appliance and looks and feels that way.
However, there are two other things that really set this space heater apart from the pack. The first is that it will AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF WHEN TIPPED OVER. That's when you want an auto shut off! If you leave the thing unattended for 15 minutes while in the bathroom or in another room on the phone, or whatever, and your cat or dog tips the heater over bad things can happen IN A HURRY. Tip this heater over and it shuts off instantly. I've seen it in action. One of our cats jumped over the heater while running about, and his back legs bumped the top and tipped it over. It was on at the time. Before it had even fully hit the ground it was off. Just like that. Now for me, that's peace of mind.
The other thing is that this heater can be backed right up against a wall or door or couch. The input air comes in at the top vent and comes out at the bottom vent. You might think this would reduce the air flow or heat circulation in a room, but it does not. It works just as well as the heaters that pull the air in from the back and push it out the front. And this design is SO MUCH more convenient.
This thing is an incredible bargain. We bought a second one we liked it so much. Highly recommended.
Customer Review: Good Heater with Unique Issues Summary: 4 Stars
This heater is built solid and is simple to operate (on or off) but has no effective thermostat. It is going to stay on constantly and this is not going to work well in all seasons. I bought a timer with 15 minute settings and this allows me to adjust the time on and off for the season and weather. This works well for me.
Customer Review: Good for small rooms Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this to heat my basement (about 300 square feet). After a few hours, there would be a noticeable difference, but it just took a long time. I'm keeping it for our small spare bedroom, and bought a lasko convection heater for the basement. Works much better for a larger space.
Customer Review: Good heater for the money Summary: 4 Stars
This heater is great for the money. Puts out heat at the bottom and warms my bathroom quite well. Only thing i dont like is it doesn't have a thermostat to automatically turn off at a certain temperature, although it does switch back and forth between power levels.
