Customer Review: Bought Two: Both Don't Work (Coil Floats or Lava Doesn't Move)

My young son was disappointed that this Christmas gift I bought for him is defective. We returned the first and replaced it, the same thing happens. The coil floats, is the main issue. Second, the lava sits in a blob at the bottom for most of the time. (Both were purchased from Amazon.)
The directions are clear, it says to not use this more than 8 hours. I researched the coil floating issue on the internet and read it is common and the fix is to leave it on for 4 hours to see if it fixes itself. That didn't work for us. Also, what good is it if in the first 4 hours it is a floating coil then in the second half sometime, it floats again? Then at on hour 8 we have to shut it off?
I note the directions also say to not shake it. I wonder if being jostled in the shipping process is to blame?
We give up on this lava lamp.
Good things I can say is that lava lamps come in many sizes, some are really puny, short and thin. If buying online read the descriptions carefully to get the size. This is a large one and my son loved the colors.
Also, Amazon's return process is excellent. The first replacment was delivered the next business day and the pick-up by UPS at our front door (package left outside) was convenient and simple.
