Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leatherman 64010103K Micra MultitoolCustomer Review: Husband impressed in spite of himself Summary: 5 Stars
I got this for my engineer of a husband last year for Christmas. He has been impressed, it goes in his pocket everyday now. Great value. Very useful.
Customer Review: I feel lost without it! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the Micra for a birthday present for myself after having eyeballed it for awhile! SO glad I did. I always have this tool close at hand, and use it multiple times a day. I am a lady, so I like something small, unobtrusive, that I can carry in my pocketbook or pocket without it being bulky. (I work in a grocery store. I use it for cutting out coupons, opening boxes, filing my nails, and in general for light duty things.) I first received a gerber clutch, and this tool is far superior to the gerber.
Pros:
Compact size, VERY lightweight
scissors work great
Knife blade extremely sharp
File useable
Key ring attachment keeps it at hand
Folds up small, nothing to snag delicate fabrics or be bulky
Cons: have to unfold the whole thing to get at the Knife blade. If you try to use it, there is danger of cutting oneself. BUT the blade is really sharp and strong for as small as this is.
Tweezers not really useable because they are part of the whole chassis, BUT they also never get lost.
Customer Review: I use it almost daily Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this because it was on sale and I thought it would be good to keep in the car. When it arrived, I put it in my pocket until I was in the car. Before I needed the car, I had a package to open, so I tried the little knife and impressed, I spent a little time really checking it out. The tool gained a place on my keyring instead of in the console of the car. I use it almost daily.
Customer Review: I use this daily - Practical, functional, quality item in a svelte package! Summary: 5 Stars
As a business traveler I learned early on to cut down on excess baggage. I use a moneyclip that holds my license and a few cards, I carry the Fisher Space Pen, and when not flying, I carry this. 3 things that take up so little pocket space that they feel nonexistant until the moment you need them. As a side note, carrying your money in your front pocket is not only harder to pick, it makes sitting more comfortable and many "Dockers" style pants have zippers now on the front pocket.
I've used several other micro-multis that I've bought or received as a gift. They are all sitting around in drawers. In fact, I lost one of these and bought the same thing to replace it when I have probably $150 worth of optional stand-ins. It's that good.
Obviously, there are tradeoffs between size, weight, robustness and functionality for multis, so YMMV. The SOG and other 4-tool style ones are well built, but don't offer many functions. The Schrage has the tools, but the size is a little much. The Gerber "lipstick" model is too bulky and has only a few tools, even if it's very solid. After carrying (and using!) at least 10 models from other companies, this became my favorite and I don't use any tools that aren't quality and I don't give out 5's without any reason.
This thing is tiny, but not fragile and still fits your hand. Fits in the pocket without you realizing it's there, has a great "hand" as a tailor would say and doesn't cut into your palm (although you really aren't cranking or applying a great deal of pressure when using the small scissors).
All blades are sharp and all of the components useful. I've found that in this form factor that pliers are generally useless. You need a larger multi in order to apply any real pressure, and the less surface area, the easier it is to strip something. Plus, for the most part, you don't need to crank out bolts every day. While, this set of tools will come in handy almost every single day. I carry it instead of a pocket knife now.
Buy one now and don't look back.
Customer Review: I wish I'd had this for years! Summary: 5 Stars
What I paid for my Micra has been some of the best money I have ever spent. I mean that quite literally. I honestly can't think of a better purchase. The fact that I have a relatively lightweight scissors, knife, tweezers, and set of screwdrivers attached to my keychain makes it more than worth the price. Its presence is reassuring, and it's certainly come in handy many times. I keep buying them for other people now, and they say the same.
I have a pocket knife... somewhere. It was too bulky to actually put on my keychain or carry around in my pocket, but I don't have the same problem with the Micra. I haven't had any problems with any of the tools, either. The knife is sharp (much sharper than my pocket knife, even), the scissors are sharp and you get good leverage, and the tweezers are great. The prongs of the tweezers are attached separately at the base, not together, so you get a strong grip, much unlike the flimsy pull-out ones that come in a normal pocket knife. I suppose the scissors don't cut as quickly as normal scissors, since the blades aren't as long, but that hasn't bothered me. The only problem I have is that it collects pocket dust inside, like my pocket knife did while I lugged it around, but that's no big deal. Buy one now! And buy a second for when Father's Day rolls around.
