Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leatherman 830032 Blast Multitool with Leather SheathCustomer Review: Great tool to have around Summary: 5 Stars
I bought mine primarily for backpacking & camping trips but I leave it in my glove box at other times so it's with me pretty much all the time. It is a very sturdy and well made tool, everything just feels solid. The blade is razor sharp, literally. Any time I'm doing projects around the house I make sure to have this thing on my belt and I'm always glad I have it. I would absolutley buy this product again and I have recommended it to a few people looking for something similar.
Customer Review: Great tool. Poor sheath. Summary: 3 Stars
The tool itself is very user friendly and has a comfortable grip. The sheath is worthless. I can't even get the tool inserted as the rivets block the leatherman from going all the way in. Since it is not leather, it will not stretch. I ended up throwing it away and using a different holder altogether. For the money spent, it should have had a decent sheath made out of leather like leatherman used to do.
Customer Review: Great, but get another sheath Summary: 5 Stars
I spent a lot of time researching the various multitools on the market today and wound up going with the Blast. It has a lot of tools for the price point, and I found it to be the best balance of weight, cost, and utility (tool amount & quality) for me. The locking mechanism is quite secure and the Zytel handles are a good feature, in my opinion. They make the gripping handles broader and more comfortable than steel could be for the weight and the zytel is a high quality and tough plastic that doesn't compromise the integrity of the multitool. Washers between the tools prevent most 'clumping' or multiple tools binding and coming out together.
The one downside is the sheath that comes with it. It is thin leather with brass rivets in the back. It can only be carried vertically on a belt. The brass rivets extrude quite a bit into the inside of the sheath, making it a chore to get the tool in entirely. They also seem like they could scratch or scuff the outside of the multitool with the metal dragging on metal. Go with one of the much nicer nylon sheaths leatherman makes if possible.
Customer Review: How Fast Can You Break a Leatherman? Summary: 1 Stars
This is a very short review, because well, the tool lasted about five minutes. I took it out of the box and began looking at the various tools. Snap! The locking mechanism just broke right there and then! Are you kidding me? It will be returned for another try, but this is why I have lost faith in these companies. Never had any problems with my Gerber (except, which seems to be the case with many of these tools, the fact that it can be difficult to remove the other tools.)
Customer Review: How did I live without one? Beautifully conceived and made. Summary: 5 Stars
I used to think that Leathermen weren't worth the effort because I'd had a problem with the blades closing on me unexpectedly. The screwdriver blades especially can be a nuisance. But every blade on the Leatherman Blast locks, so that's not a problem.
I've been impressed by the spiffy sandblasted look of the blades and the solid feel overall. I had previously messed around with non-Leatherman knock-offs and didn't see the point, but the real McCoy is different. The knife blades is very sharp, something you don't often see.
I live on a farm and often have to walk long distances to fetch a single tool. The incidence of this has fallen off since I bought my Leatherman Blast.
This particular Leatherman is quite large and is best used with a belt sheath. (I like the nylon sheath because it's a little less bulky than the leather one.) If you're going to keep it in your pocket, you probably want a smaller one.
I've been carrying a Swiss Army Knife since I was 11, but I've retired it in favor of my Leatherman.
