Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leatherman 830032 Blast Multitool with Leather Sheath

Customer Review: I'll never be without one of these
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't begin to count the ways I've used my Blast. This is one of those tools that becomes indispensable. Some people are complaining about the Zytel (Plastic) inserts, but I think these help add bulk (and a rounded edge) to the grip without weight. Ironically, opening the tool feels the same as it did when new. It hasn't loosened at all. I've used this tool regularly for several years and never had an issue. It's very well made.

I'd buy another one of these the same day if I lost this one.

Customer Review: Incredibly Useful
Summary: 4 Stars

This tool is worth every penny and has come in handy on more occasions than I can name.

Customer Review: Incredibly stiff. Hard to open, hard to close.
Summary: 2 Stars

The tools seem solid. The handle seems solid. The screwdrivers are very good. The case is decent.

But the whole thing is so stiff, it's almost unusable. Every action - opening the pliers, extending a screwdriver, closing the tool - is an experience of scraping metal on metal, and trying to keep your fingers out of the way in case the stiff mechanism suddenly starts to move easily. I dread having to deal with this thing. When I need to fix something, I find myself searching for another tool even when this Leatherman is close at hand.

Leatherman suggests oiling the joints. OK, I did that. (Why didn't the manufacturer do that for me?) Doesn't matter: it doesn't help. In fact, now I just have a stiff tool that slowly releases oil onto my hands.

Some people also suggest opening and closing the tool a few hundred times to loosen it up. (Why didn't the manufacturer do that for me?) I've opened and closed it a few times, but I resent being given the task of completing the manufacturing process. The tool should have been adjusted properly before leaving the factory.

Last complaint: the little fingernail hooks on the tools are poorly spaced. If you keep your nails trimmed, there are some tools you'll simply never be able to access, unless you use a 2nd tool to pry them out. This is a simple design issue. Would have been easy to fix.

Customer Review: Ironic
Summary: 5 Stars

This is really not a review of the product since it appears to have been well reviewed.

But I just had to note the irony that a Leatherman offers no help in opening the deadly plastic clamshell packaging that the Leatherman comes in!
I would really like see someone at Leatherman demonstrate this.

Customer Review: It's a leatherman
Summary: 5 Stars

What else is there to say. It's a Leatherman. I used to have a Gerber and was never really happy with it. I now have a Leatherman with a leather belt case and it's 10 times the product the Gerber was. Leatherman is the way to go, you can never go wrong.
