Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leatherman 830032 Blast Multitool with Leather SheathCustomer Review: Never dissapointed Summary: 5 Stars
This is the third Leatherman I've owned and will never buy a different brand multi-tool. Don't pay any attention to people saying that the lock mechinisim breaks. It breaks because they forget to press it down when trying to close one of the tools that are locked into place and end up forcing them closed rather than stopping to think that they have a tool that locks. They broke their tool, the tool didn't break due to poor craftmanship.
Customer Review: Nice Tool Summary: 5 Stars
Gave as a gift. If I had a need I'd buy one for myself, as it is a very nice tool, indeed.
Customer Review: Not just a survival tool Summary: 5 Stars
This is not just a survival tool, it's a MAIN tool.
I already used it for:
Tightening screws on glasses
Trimming and filing finger nails, and ingrown toe nails.
Sawing off Moth Eater vine.
Sawing cut outs in a branch so the bird feeder can hang on it.
Fitting a new cd rom drive to the computer
Filing nail points to a sharp end, to prevent wood splitting.
Fixing the kitchen cupboard doors.
Adusting the hot ventilator of the Weber barbecue with the pliers
Adjusting bent bracket for toilet seat
Cutting my guitar strings to length
Gripping bolt nuts to unscrew the bolt
Cutting and trimming insulated wire
Peeling oranges
and so it goes on and on...
If you are not going to wear it on your belt at all times, then don't buy one. This is the main point of the Blast, it's for everyday use. Only place I don't wear it, is in the shower, heh.
Leatherman told me that the locks have been improved and do not break any more(bought mine in 2010).I have not yet broken one.
The holster is good leather made in mexico. The bottom rivets stand a bit proud on the inside, so I flattened them slightly. The tool slides in easier now. It's not essential at all to do this, as it works fine as it is.
Forget about the Wave, the screwdrivers are too short to get proper access to tight screw locations.
Also forget about the cheap chinese imitation leatherman. I had one that closed it's blade on my fingers. Safety first folks.....
The only tool I miss on it,is an awl, but my Swiss Army knife has one.No multitool has everything though, and this is a very minor defect.
The pliers and tools are excellent quality. All the engineering is done with precision, all the tools fit really well.
It's the best value for money multitool, for sure.
A lifetime warranty too.
Customer Review: PLASTIC in this tool - keep away! Summary: 2 Stars
This tool is made up of roughly 33% plastic.
I was surprised of the lack of quality in this Leatherman tool.
Avoid this one at all costs.
Are the people who left positive reviews for this item nuts?
Since when was it acceptable for a multi-tool (even the $5.00 ones) to be made with plastic????
Customer Review: Perfect for Average Joes Summary: 5 Stars
I've only had this Leatherman Blast for a couple of weeks, but so far it's everything I'd hoped for. It has all the tools a typical person would regularly use, it's built solid, not too heavy, and folds up to a very compact size. My first multitool was a Swiss Army, and it was very handy and complete; however, I'd have to say that this Blast will be better for me in the long run. The pliers and all tools locking system is what sold me from buying another Swiss. I had researched other brands (Gerber and Swiss) but decided on this Leatherman due mainly for what it has (and doesn't have, who really needs 20 plus tools in your pocket?)and the Leatherman name, and thus far it has exceeded my expectations.
No questions about it, I'd recommend this multitool for those Average Joes like me, or those who want a solid built, easy to use, and practical multitool.
