Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leatherman 830039 New Wave Multitool with Leather/Nylon Combination SheathCustomer Review: A great tool updated Summary: 5 Stars
The original Wave was a great tool and this update is worthwhile. It's a great balance of size, price and functionality. Being an eyeglasses wearer, I like the addition of the double-ended micro-screwdriver bits.
Customer Review: A practical multi-tool for everyone Summary: 5 Stars
The new Leatherman Wave takes the old Wave design to a new level. It is one of the best multi-tools money can buy. Leatherman is more practical and rugged than the fancy Swiss army knives. I have a Leatherman and a Swiss army knife and I've found myself using the Leatherman most of the times.
The new Wave is very similar to the top of the range Leatherman Charge Ti, except that Charge Ti has a titanium handle, a stronger 154CM knife and 6 more double-ended bits.
Customer Review: A very good Amazon deal Summary: 5 Stars
The Leatherman New Wave tool is one of the better deals on Amazon. By itself, and at the list price, the Leatherman Wave is an expensive indulgence--a tool with most of its functions covered quite nicely by a good-sized Swiss Army knife like the Swiss champ. Amazon's pricing makes the Wave Tool affordable enough so that you can have both, as I do, choosing the right tool or tool element for each situation.
I myself do a lot of work with cordage and I find the Wave Tool's one-handed opening blades wonderful for measuring and cutting, allowing me to hold the measured point in the line with one hand while I get out the tool with the other. The pliers are actual pliers with well-functioning wire-cutters, the blades are real blades (so how *am* I going to sharpen the serrated blade?!), and it does what it's supposed to do well. You can't ask for more than that in a tool and, on Amazon, the price is definitely right--right enough to be worth my while.
One note to the consumer though, some of Amazon's suppliers offer the bare tool while others will bundle it with other things like the nylon sheath, or a few additional tool bits for the tool's carrier for not that much additional money. Fair's fair, I bought the tool I bought and I'm very satisfied with it, but if I were shopping for it right now, I'd look a little harder and find a supplier on Amazon who offered you just a little bit more.
Hope you find this useful
Customer Review: A very good tool Summary: 5 Stars
This is the second Leatherman tool I have owned. I have a PST II that is still in great condition, but I decided it was time to upgrade.
The Good:
1. Locking blades. This is my biggest criticism of the PST II. The blades and screwdriver bits don't lock, so if you are really bearing down on something, it can close on you.
2. Rounded grip surfaces. This makes the pliers very easy to grip and squeeze.
3. A good variety of tools.
The Bad:
1. The scissors don't appear to be as solid as the older scissors. They cut fine, but they are thinner and seem almost dainty.
2. The non-blade tools are difficult for me to open. I don't have very good fingernails, and the nail-nicks are very hard to get to. I usually have to get out a coin to open them, and conbined with the stiffness of the hinges (an otherwise good thing), they are hard to access.
All in all, I really like this tool. It is heavy, but I don't consider that a bad thing. the hinges and locks are all very typical Leatherman--they are all tight and firm. My PST II is a few years old, and all the hinges are tight on it as well. I would not hesitate to recommend this tool to anyone.
Customer Review: About the case... Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased this product and thought the case wasn't too bad. Just to add, since there are already quite a few reviews, i placed the Brightest Mini Pocket Keychain Size CREE LED Flashlight Runs on 1 AAA Battery with on / off Switch and Lanyard in one of the side pockets. Its on amazon and is the brightest little flashlight i've ever seen. It fits in one of the side pockets perfectly. Its a nice little addition to this already awesome tool. I'm still trying to figure out what to put in the other side pocket. Overall I think this is going to be an excellent investment.
**Update
I placed a mini bic lighter in the middle pocket. So that gives you this awesome multitool with an amazing flashlight and fire all in one convenient place. Whats not to like there!
