Like a tiny tool chest you can take anywhere. I carry mine with me in my survival kit or keep it in a pocket in my parka for emergencies. I also keep it available for around the house "jobs." Blade edges are very sharp and hold an edge well.
Consider the bulk and weight though when buying.

I've bought two of these ever. One was for myself ten years ago. I still use it. The other was for a friend recently who wanted a great all purpose knife.
Pros:
- has survived years of my abuse during farm labor, trekking in the backcountry, and home handiwork.
- the external blade access is really great. I often find I need a blade quickly and would rather do a single-handed thumb open with this tool than have to open the pliers to access the blade as with other models.
cons:
- crappy scissors, but who's surprised there.

The Leatherman Wave is the best tool I have ever purchased. Its many uses and has earned a place on my belt all the time. I cannot go anywhere without it as it is so useful. Broken sprinkler no problem it cuts right through the PVC pipe. Need to fix a vacuum cleaner belt the Leatherman Wave is the only tool you will need. Take apart the vacuum with the screw driver and cut all the strings that get wound around the brush. Need to take apart a computer? It has got you covered on a laptop or a desktop. I find new ways to use the Wave each day and I am impressed with the quality of the tool.
Do not believe people that say it can be opened with one hand. The blade is razor sharp and I can see someone hurting themselves pretty bad trying a move like that.

its solid, reliable, and with the pocket clip is not even noticeable (doesn't drag your pocket down to your knees) this is just the greatest little tool ever invented.
