Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leatherman 830846 Skeletool MultitoolCustomer Review: Constantly broken Summary: 2 Stars
I love the form and function of this thing. But I have broken the jaws on it probably half a dozen times now. Any twisting action with them causes them to snap. It has been fixed under warranty every time but I am with out a pocket knife for two weeks every time it happens. I don't even carry it anymore.
Customer Review: Decent tool until it broke Summary: 1 Stars
I had the tool for a couple of months and thought it was a decent tool. It has all the good gadgets but the form could be better. The pliers are not as comfortable to use as I would hope - the screwdriver tip can dig into your hand. Anyway, I thought it was still okay until it failed when the pliers broke - more like shattered. I wasn't abusing them, but apparently I applied too much force. The pliers are really too thin at the joint. Turned out to be a waste of money for me. Now I have to pay to ship them to Leatherman and see what happens there.
Customer Review: Described as a very "manly" knife Summary: 4 Stars
I gave this as a gift to my cousin for his high school graduation. Because the product was delayed several times, he ended up getting it during his 2nd semester at college. He described it as the "manliest" knife he has ever had.
Lacks a few things that would make this the ultimate tool, but for most purposes it is very handy (wish it had a corkscrew and scissors).
Customer Review: Design over Function Summary: 1 Stars
When I ordered this tool, I thought it would be a handy pocket carry tool. I was disappointed in several areas.. First, the extra blade for the screwdriver just slides into a slot on the outside of the tool. It will slide out, you will lose it. Mine slid out the first hour. Second, the clip to hold the tool in the pocket it too short, too thin, and not stiff/strong enough to safely hold the tool in your pocket. You stand to lose the tool if you use the clip. The carabiner type clip may be a workaround for the weak pocket clip, but only if you don't mind having a tool hanging off your belt that can scratch your car's paint and tear the upholstery. Third, it costs more and does less than the original leatherman. It looks cool, but tools are about function not looks. All this tool has, after you lose the screwdriver blades, is a pliers with an awkward grip, an awkward knife and a poor bottle opener. I rate this a sad 1 star. Sad because I have been a leatherman fan and user for years. I expected better from them.
Customer Review: Disappointed Summary: 2 Stars
I recently purchased the Leatherman 830846 Skeletool Multitool based upon all of the positive reviews. I already have a Wave multitool, and I thought that it would be nice to have a smaller multitool when I did not need all of the tools included with the Wave. I found a great price for the Skeletool, and I made a quick purchase.
I am disappointed with the way this tool feels in the hand. When compared with the Wave, the Skeletool is not as comfortable in my hand and it is awkward to grip. I could have easily avoided making this purchase if I had taken the time to visit an area retailer to examine a display model, and determine if I would be as satisfied with the Skeletool as I am with the Wave. I hope that someone can benefit from my mistake!!
