Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leatherman 830846 Skeletool MultitoolCustomer Review: Disappointing product from a once-iconic brand Summary: 2 Stars
The clasp that holds the screwdriver bits now has no retention ability; the spring that holds it shut is apparently shot, so I'm always worried that the bits will disappear on me.
The pocket clip is extremely flimsy, the tool routinely falls out of my pocket.
The blade hinge became very stiff after a few weeks.
The pliers are very pinch-prone to the palm-heel of my hand, resulting in blood blisters.
Great idea and styling, very poor execution.
Customer Review: Disappointment Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this tool for my husband. He said that there aren't enough tools, the small tools fall out and get lost and the tool is not lightweight. As a user of leatherman tools, this one did not measure up on the satisfaction index.
Customer Review: Does not replace the Kick. Summary: 4 Stars
It is o.k. but I would rather have and use my Leatherman Kick. It is just a little to small to do the jobs that I do with my Kick. Thanx Deacon
Customer Review: Everyday Carry Tool Summary: 4 Stars
I carry this tool everyday. I work in an office but play outdoors. I find it useful all the time. The knife blade is large enough to do much more than open letters. The pliers / wire cutters function the same as a dedicated tool for the same purpose. The screw driver function works as a convenience. The ability to drive screws with the handle at ninety degrees allow the user to create turning power. It's more difficult to create a lot of down force with the screw driver because edges of the handle can dig into your palm. It is possible to open the blade quickly with your thumb for self defense but other knives would function better for that purpose. The blade requires regular sharpening. Only the last inch is designed for carving or shaving. The main blade is thicker for chopping. The line clip is plenty stony to retain the tool but far from strong enough to suspend a person. The bottle opener is effective.
The belt clip should only be used for temporary carry. I loss one of these tools carrying it clipped that way. I like the tool so much I purchased several. I carry this in my rear pocket. The tool creates wear marks on my jeans. When closed for carry, there are no sharp edges to poke me or my clothing.
The tool is very well made for the price. The fit and finish is good but its not a work of art. Rather this is an everyday tool I am not afraid to use and occasionally abuse
Customer Review: Everyday pocket tool Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this pocket tool a while back and am now ready to review it as the "New Toy" smell has faded. :)
I got this because the Leatherman Surge I previously carried was a bit heavy for everyday use (and 60% of the functions were unused.) This fits the bill, and my NiteIze belt pouch perfectly. At less than 1/2 of the weight of the Surge (I don't have absolute numbers) it doesn't weigh me down.
The unique design gets people's attention and shocks them when they feel how light yet sturdy it is. I get no play on the pliers or the blade. And the positive lock mechanism on the screwdriver bits is much better than the one on my surge.
Big plus: Using the clip to attach onto a lanyard!
