Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leatherman Bit KitCustomer Review: Almost perfect! Summary: 4 Stars
Great ad-on to my leatherman. I would love to se a set that includes security bits also!
The nylon sheath that comes with the bits is USELESS! I can already carry these bits in the same sheath as my wave or TTi so why include it?! Its a waste... having done with my rant i'm going to go take apart a robot now...thanks :)
Customer Review: An Improved Carrier Summary: 5 Stars
This is the second set of the add-on tool bits that I purchased for my Charge. The first set had a clear platic bit holder much like the manufacturer photos illustrate. The second set have the black bit holder. The original bit holder cracked apart when carried behind the Leatherman in the sheath causing some bits to be lost. The plastic was more riogid and suject to age cracking. The second appears to adress these problems. I am still carrying the bits in the ugly acessory case. I may move them to the sheath when I am convinced the holder will not self destruuct.
As other have mentioned, the bits expand the use of the multitool greatly and are certainly worth having. I have owned Leatherman tools since the first version was available.
Customer Review: An excellent accessory Summary: 5 Stars
This kit is an excellent accessory for a number of Leatherman tools. The one and only downside is that the kit is somewhat pricey. You are paying for the form and convenience of Leatherman's "new" bit design. That design is very compact and much more usable than the previous bits, which required a bulky adapter for most tools.
I bought the kit for use with the new Skeletool, which has two bits on board. I can swap them for the ones I need from the accessory kit. In addition, the bit kit comes with a nylon sheath, so you can easily carry all of the bits. I've found that I regularly use certain bits, so I put them on one of the plastic "cards" the bits are stored on, and that's all I carry.
The quality of the kit measures up to Leatherman standards. Everything Leatherman makes seems to be sculpted by an artist, and these bits are no exception. The steel is very high quality, and, so far, I haven't noticed any wear at all.
It's a pricey accessory, but one that I think is worth the cost. I'm happy I bought it, and I'd do so again.
Customer Review: And bike tires, too Summary: 5 Stars
Most of the things I love about this bit set have already been said in other reviews but...did you notice that the ends of the nylon bit carriers have an odd upswept curve? Clearly they're meant to serve as a pair of tire tools when changing out bicycle tires. Pretty cool. I've only had the Wave plus the bit set for two days, and I've done two unanticipated repairs/adjustments with ease and pleasure. I love 'em.
Customer Review: Another One? Summary: 1 Stars
There is no perfect multi-tool. Only multi-tools that different people find different uses for. Just like with the Swiss Army Knife.
My one major gripe is that the original tool models have been left behind. So, you make a few changes, the tools are safer, more comfortable, stronger.....great! Now what about those of us who just haven't been able to keep up with the Jones? I still have the original Leatherman PST. And since I've also got the original Gerber Multi-Plier, this applies to that company also.
How about reverse engineering some of these new attachments to work with the older model tools, and making them cross-compatible with other models in your line? I want to be able to buy this kit, and use it with all my Leathermans; from the Juice, to the Kick, to the PST, et cetera. I just can't go out and buy every new tool attachment that you release, the same way I can't go out and buy every configuration of the Swiss Army Knife.
And if you should happen to wear out a specific bit (like a Phillips), you have to buy another whole set of bits just to replace the one. Why do you think those multi-piece drill/driver kits all come with duplicates of the popular bits? What if I only want a Phillips? At least offer the option of buying the bits piece by piece, as opposed to the whole set.
This sucks. Know why?
We don't need this. Just give us a bit adapter. Bit adapters that will accept 1/4" & 3/8" bits.
The original Leatherman PST had a tool adapter that accepted 1/4" bits. Not fancy proprietary bits that only work on select Leathermans. All that I had to do was slip on the tool adapter, and use any bit I wanted to from my drill/driver bit collection. I didn't have to buy a set of proprietary bits. I didn't have to carry around a set of proprietary bits.
