Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leatherman Bit Kit

Customer Review: Great Addition to the Leatherman Line
Summary: 4 Stars

I am a paratrooper in the United States Army and I use a multi-tool every day. I have been issued tools from Leatherman, Gerber and SOG and all have their good points as well as bad.

The SOG rusted quite easily after being exposed to perspiration in Afghanistan. It was also not easy to expose the blades in the handle.

Gerbers worked well, but the screwdrivers were not beveled well. Also the bottle opener was so short that it was difficult to open a cold Sam Adams.

This assortment of bits works extremely well. I have never been a fan of leatherman multi-tools because of some poor design flaws in the early leatherman models. Specifically the original Leatherman tool was pretty hard on your hand when using the pliers. The "blades" were on the outside when the pliers were in the open position. If you ever had one, you know what I mean.

Leatherman corrected that with the Wave series by contouring the handles, but the bevel on the screwdriver (flat head) left much to be desired.

I used several Gerber models and was pretty satisfied with them (except for the LEDEND model.....no can opener) Gerbers also will pinch you if you are not careful when using the pliers.

The Victorinox Swisstool is built well, and with MINIMAL care will never rust. The blades are sharp and their placement is well thought out. It has rounded edges in all the right places and as such is comfortable in your hand. It will never pinch you when using the pliers.

I got a Leatherman XT-i as a gift and found it to be well made and comfortable to use. With the addition of this bit kit it should be even more functional. The bits seem to be well made and durable. I still find myself carrying my swisstool more often than the Leatherman, but that is out of 6 years of habit. I'm not ready to retire the Swisstool, but I will give the leatherman a chance.

I also put the bits I thought I would use the most on one card and carry that in the belt sheath that the XT-i came in. That seems to work well.

Customer Review: Great Assortment
Summary: 5 Stars

If you like being prepared and usually carry a utility tool, then you might want to consider purchasing the screwdriver assortment. Although I never carried a utility tool until now, I'm amazed how often it comes in handy. It seems that now I carry the tool and bit assortment, I end up needing to use it at least twice per week. If not for myself, someone I come in contact with for various reasons. It's a great set of bits that will fulfill just about any need or requirement. And as always, you just can't get much better than "Leatherman" brand utility tools.

Customer Review: Great Bit Kit and great service from Leatherman
Summary: 5 Stars

I have the Leatherman New Wave and absolutely love it. When I found that there was a bit kit available I got quite excited, as I often need other bits for fixing various things.

I thought the $13 price was reasonable considering what it would give me and what it would let me stop carrying. When the kit arrived I noticed that two bits were missing. I'm guessing that they slipped out of the holder (some of the bits are pretty loose) and then worked their way out of the box then the package. Today I called Leatherman and they are sending out bits to replace them at no charge.

As others have said, I rearranged mine to have the most commonly used bits on the same card. The card fit perfectly in the back of the leather New Wave sheath when turned so the bits are away from the tool (there's an elastic compartment for just such a purpose).

I would have liked to see a better choice of Torx bits, but aside from that I'm quite pleased.

Customer Review: Great Gadget for your Leatherman
Summary: 4 Stars

I really like this bit set. The only problem I have is it doesnt have a very good selection of smaller torx bits. The reason this is an issue is I recently bought one of Leatherman's new lock back knives and it uses a torx to hold on the pocket clip. The really stupid thing is this knife has leatherman's bit tool and it includes a torx bit, but it is too big for the torx on the knife it comes with. I think the quality is, as usual with leatherman, very good. Their is a good selection of bits and I expect them to be just as durable as anything else with the leatherman name on it. It all fits in a very small, for the number of bits included, space. I think that most people who love their leatherman will find this a useful addition to the belt, to go with their cell phone, leatherman multi-tool and the cool little bit set.

Customer Review: Great Idea
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't know what you can say about the screw-driving bits. This little set combined with the Skeletool CX and the bit extension gives everyone just about any tool they would need to take care of almost any problem they will face. Whether it is Torx, Pozi, or more common tips this set will solve almost all problems you will come across.

Leatherman created a big winner here. Durable, small, alot of tools in one convenient pouch, and cost effective.
