Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leviton PR150-1LW 500W, Single Pole, 150 Degrees, 350 sq. ft. Passive Infrared Wall Switch Occupancy Sensor, Residential Grade, White

Customer Review: Product description is not accurate.
Summary: 3 Stars

Description is incorrect. Its a has a 150 degree sensing angle NOT 180 as described. Also, its white not ivory.

Customer Review: Same poor experience as many others here
Summary: 1 Stars

Bought this at the local Home Depot. I should have checked here first. I installed this in my garage in order to control three fluorescent ceiling fixtures (the long rod type, not CFLs). As others have mentioned, the best part of this switch that works perfectly are the ON and OFF positions. AUTO gives all sorts of problems, ranging from inconsistent activation to flickering. The flickering is the most annoying part. In "ON" the lights are fine. In AUTO they flicker or blink every so often. I'm returning this ASAP.

Customer Review: So far, so good... (no neutral wire required)
Summary: 4 Stars

I had bought another model in my local store that required a neutral wire. I didn't know anything about it, and my installation at home has only 2 wires + ground wire.
I did some research and found this Leviton PR150. I bought at my local store also and the installation was a breeze.
It's working fine for the moment with my fixture that has 3 spotlights.
I can't tell about the durability yet (I hope it doesn't break as some others experienced).
I wouldn't use the button to turn the lights on/off manually (frequently) because I don't think it would last. And also the controls to set the time it stays on and the lighting are not so easy to set. It takes some time to have it fine tuned. (I still don't have the lighting tuned up).
So far, I didn't experience the flaws from other customers.

Customer Review: Very flexible unit
Summary: 4 Stars

Like all things technical, there is a continuum from easy to use w/ limited functionality, to greatly expanded functionality w/ a steeper learning curve. You can't design a house in PC Paint, but autocad is more complex to use.

I used this in a very limited space in the pantry. It faces directly towards the refrigerator, 5" away. I walk in totally to the side of it, and it looses track of me when I pass the refrigerator. I've been able to adjust it so that it turns on and stays on while I'm filling the coffee machine or something.

I love the application, because my hands are full at least 75% of the time I go in our out of this room!

Customer Review: Very little about this switch seems to work well.
Summary: 1 Stars

I have the PR180, which is the expanded 180 degree sensor. The only thing that seems to work consistently on this is the manual switch at the bottom. It does indeed turn it permanently off or permanently on. The problems begin when you set it to the middle Auto setting.

After playing with the Time setting, I found that turning it all the way up to ALMOST the maximum kept it on for 30 seconds. One more click adjustment and it immediately went up to 15 minutes, as it advertises. I couldn't find any setting between 30 seconds and 15 minutes after repeated trials. I left it at 30 seconds and tested it about five times, then gave up. I left the room. Ten minutes later, the light was still on. It can't seem to make up its mind.

The other downside is, about 3 out of 4 times, the light will go off while you're still in the room (in this case, it's a bathroom). When the light goes off, you can sit there and flail your arms and body and the sensor will not detect motion and turn the light back on. I've sat there for upwards of two minutes trying to get it to go back on and it never does, until I reset it with the manual switch at the bottom. All of this is with the Light Level Adjustment setting turned all the way to the maximum setting. If I turn it down at all, the sensor never detects anything, ever.

Everyone in our family has gotten so frustrated with it, we all just use the manual switch on the bottom to turn the light on and off. I do NOT recommend this switch at all. It was the cheapest motion detection light switch in the store, and it's clear why. It's a poor product.
