Tools and Hardware Reviews of Life Gear LGTF38 LED Flashlight with LED Reading Lamp, NOAA Emergency AM/FM Radio with Alert and WeatherbandCustomer Review: Beaware of the Nicad Battery and On/Off Switch Summary: 2 Stars
The big problem with this radio is 'two-fold'. First, you can easily be fooled by turning 'off' the Volume knob (and hearing the 'click'), thinking that you shut-off the radio. WRONG! You must THEN remember to slide the power switch to OFF as well. If you don't, despite not hearing any sound, the radio will still be 'ON'. And if you had the power switch in the Rechargeable Battery position previously when you shut off the Volume knob, that would severely 'wear down' the internal Nicad battery (after about an hour of having left the power switch in the ON position). And if you discharge a Nicad battry (unlike a NimH) too much, it will never again hold a decent charge...if any at all. The same holds true if you just leave the radio 'playing' with the rechargeable batteries, and leave your home for an hour without shuttting it off. If the Nicads are drained beyond the time that they hold a charge, you will never again be able to recharge then fully or possibly even partially (especially via the crank.)
Customer Review: Crank Power Does NOT Work Summary: 1 Stars
As far as I'm concerned, the only reason to purchase a device of this type is the crank power feature. I can purchase AA battery powered flashlight that is 10x smaller and lighter than this thing that puts out better light. I can purchase a AA battery powered radio that is smaller, lighter, and has better reception than this thing.
So, the crank feature is all I really care about. Does it work? Heck NO. The biggest defect in this device is the "rechargeable battery" and its connection. It broke pretty much right out of the package. Second time I tried plugging the rechargeable battery in, the entire connection pushed into the device and broke. I'm basically left with two loose wires for a battery connection. Extremely flimsy wiring.
The rechargeable battery is a joke. Its one of those tiny little round batteries normally used in watches or key fob. Capable of powering a single LED. Definitely not capable of powering a radio for longer than 30 seconds.
Customer Review: Don't Waste Your Money or Time Buying This Summary: 1 Stars
This emergency flashlight was defective right out of the box! The alarm clock LED does not work, the reading lights cut in and out, and even worse, the all-important radio doesn't work. As other reviewers have noted, the device feels and looks shoddy, so I won't bother getting a replacement for this flashlight. I'll send this back tomorrow and hopefully Amazon will refund my money.

Please avoind this item. I am not sure where the other reviews came from buut this is total junk! I actually thought I received a USED unit when I opened the first box....item was dirty, knobs and switches were worn, faceplate scratched. The replacement came in the same shape. The weather radio would not work on either and the FM would not tune on the first. There have to be better units out there. All of these need to be sent back to China!
Customer Review: Don't buy this device! Summary: 1 Stars
Cheaply made and poorly designed. Out of the box mine wouldn't charge with the crank. The NiCad battery was too dead. NiCads have the worst issues with "charge memory" so what a dumb idea to use them in the first place. The solution, according the the instructions is the plug it into the wall for at least 12 hours. There is no charger included. Log onto their website and order their "free" charger for $5.95 shipping and handling. As an emergency device this is useless unless you have fresh AA batteries in it. The antenna is tiny and the radio reception is very poor, as well. I'm glad I got this one sale and only wasted $25.
