Customer Review: Built well, but disappointing light output

Like other Maglite flashlights I own, this one is built well and looks good. I found this light on clearance at a local store and couldn't pass up getting a 3W LED flashlight at a discount. Plus, I've always been a fan of Maglite flashlights.
I was nervous since no lumen rating was listed on the package, but figured a 3W must be good - right? Well, I was wrong. It's actually not a very bright beam for a 3W LED. I'm not sure what type of LED it uses, but I have several other 3xAA and 2xAA flashlights that outperform this one easily - especially the 1W and CREE LED lights. In fact, I have a couple 1xAA lights that put out more light than this one.
The 2xAA Maglite is actually a pretty good flashlight and also outperforms this 3xAA light by a good margin. This flashlight puts out a softer beam than many of the others, but it has a yellowish cast and is just not as bright or as white as other quality LED flashlights.
I'd suggest getting the 2xAA version of this light if you insist on a Maglite. Especially since the new 2xAA models have the multi-mode switches that allow different output power and strobe modes.
