Tools and Hardware Reviews of Magcraft NSN0601 1/4-Inch by 1/10-Inch Rare Earth Disc Magnets, 50-Count

Customer Review: 1/4 x 1/10 Neodymium Disc Magnets
Summary: 4 Stars

I ordered these and they arrived promptly. They arrived in a protective plastic tube. However, the cardboard box that they were shipped in was so ridiculous I couldn't believe it. I assume someone just forgot to tape it up. The box was shaped such that the two opposing ends of the flat box formed these flaps that were folded toward the inside of the box. They formed a one way type of arrangement in that you could push something into the box but it couldn't come out due to the one way fold of the box. The problem (and why I assume it just wasn't taped) was that to get the tube of magnets out of the box all I had to do was push my hand into the flap thus pushing it down and remove the magnets. The point of this way to lengthy description is that ANYONE that handled that package from the time it left the vendor to the time it arrived in my hands could have simply reached in and removed the tube of magnets. The package would have continued on it's way without anyone even knowing (other than the box being very light). The package wasn't sealed in any way to prevent someone from taking the magnets out before they reached the shipping destination. The magnets are VERY small but the description shows the accurate measurements. As others have said they DO chip if allowed to slam together. I found that if you put one on the table and then toss another one onto the table somewhat near the other one the two would slam together and start spinning. However, after doing this a bunch of times I noticed one of the magnets was chipped. If you don't allow them to slam together you won't have any problem with them. There isn't much else to say about them. They are very small very powerful magnets. The only reason I took a star off is the price. I felt it was a bit higher than it should have been given their size. Obviously I didn't think it was to far out of line since I ordered them but ideally I think they should be a bit cheaper. That is something everyone must decide for themselves.

Description of Magcraft NSN0601 1/4-Inch by 1/10-Inch Rare Earth Disc Magnets, 50-Count

Rare earth magnets are the strongest type of permanent magnet currently made. They are amazingly powerful for their size and have innumerable uses. These disc magnets are 0.250 inch (6.4mm) diameter and 0.100 inch (2.5mm) thick. They are magnetized through the thickness. They are composed of grade 40 neodymium iron boron magnetic material and are plated in nickel-copper-nickel for a shiny corrosion resistant finish. Their individual pull force is approximately 2 lbs. Maximum working temperature is 176 F (80 C). Magnets may chip and crack if allowed to snap together
Magcraft rare earth disc magnets are neodymium iron boron (ndfeb). They are 1/4-inch by 1/10-inch, grade - N40 and their dimensional tolerance is - +/-0.005 inches. The plating is nickel-copper-nickel and their maximum working temperature is 176-degrees fahrenheit (80- celsius).
