Tools and Hardware Reviews of Makita BML185 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Flashlight

Customer Review: Not what I would expect from Makita !!
Summary: 2 Stars

I did acquire the light because I have every other 18 volt tool that Makita offers.
The light arrived looked ok, but after a couple of uses the light would not function consistantly.
I found the bulb socket to be defective, not holding the light tightly, so the light would come on and go off without touching it.
I also found the beam not that good.
I returned it and got a full credit.
I was going to buy another one but after reading all the negative reviews decided to wait until Makita makes some changes and possibly redisigns the light!

Customer Review: OK but not GREAT.
Summary: 3 Stars

Only bought because I already have extra batteries for my drills available. It is a bit flimsy for field use. It had not broken yet but I'm sure one good fall and it will. Light quality is very good. Adjustable head needs more defined detents [positions] it just "flops" down too easily. More substantial feel/weight for field use. Needs to be able to take numerous drops at 6'-10' for me to be able to recommend to the professional. My suggestion to Makita, have the folks who engineered/designed the current version of the job site radio RE-design this light!

Customer Review: Pricey, and not really sturdy.
Summary: 2 Stars

I expect more out of Makita. The swivel head has a lot of play in it, which gives it a flimsy feel. As much as this cost, and the Makita name, gave me some great expectations. This, however, didn't deliver.

That said, it does put out quite a beam of light, and the 4 swivel angels are very handy.

Customer Review: Utility light - fine for around the home
Summary: 3 Stars

this light is good for:
1. seeing under the car when you are changing oil
2. light under the sink when fixing or tightening a drain
3. leave in the bathroom on the counter when the lights go out...
because it stands well and the light lasts for at least 1 hour when charged recently.

this light is NOT good for:
1. seeing in tight places
2. keeping outside the home - like in a car trunk - battery does not hold a charge that long
3. camping
because it is large and clunky with the heavy battery and the beam does not focus from flood light and narrow beam. Once it goes dead, it's out.

Customer Review: Very handy
Summary: 4 Stars

If you already have a lot of expensive Makita lithium 18V batteries around for power tools, why not get more use out of them? This is a handy flashlight and only two small gripes: 1) the on/off button should be on the trigger position, not the back and 2) the bulb is conventional - why doesn't this use new, cool, superbright LED's? But it works fine and I do use it all the time.
