Tools and Hardware Reviews of Makita LCT300W 18-Volt Compact Lithium-Ion Cordless 3-Piece Combo KitCustomer Review: Batteries won't charge in cold weather Summary: 3 Stars
I'm a full time Carpenter, living in Seattle, WA and working in residential remodeling. I bought this combo set in June of 2008 and it has worked great until the weather got cold (Seattle doesn't even really get that cold). I noticed if the weather goes below 50 degrees, the batteries will not charge...the charger runs for a few seconds and then shuts off. If I bring the charger and batteries inside to a warmer room (this some time isn't an option), it works fine (after the batteries get to room temp.). This is disappointing to a carpenter or anyone that relies on their drills on a day to day basis. Aside from that, the drills are great, lightweight, batteries charge in 20 minutes, the light feature is great, etc. The impact driver has a tendency to completely rip off screw heads, depending on the material you are screwing into...highly recommend pre-drilling if working with harder material and using the impact driver.
Customer Review: Battery Longevity Summary: 2 Stars
The batteries lasted maybe 18 months of casual use. These batteries aren't cheap - I'll put the tools kit up onto eBay with a single replacement battery - I'm done.
The next tool I buy will be aMilwaukee 5 years 2000 charges (and I WILL keep track of the number of charges).
Customer Review: Best Combo Set for Price Period! Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this set about six months ago and I am still amazed at the performance. The battery life is awesome. I am a cable technician, don't use the drill on a consistent basis, so being able to charge the battery once and then go for about 2 weeks without usage, then having to drill a 3/8 bit into a 2x4, it still gives the same output as if i just charged it. The Impact is awesome, goes through anything, the Light is bright enough to light up an attic or crawl space and the Drill will go through most anything its asked without hesitation.
All in all, if your not going to be using this for a hardcore construction purpose, then this is the best set out there.
Customer Review: Best Drill I've ever owned! Summary: 5 Stars
I've already given away my old Dewalt drills and look forward to each time I have an excuse to use my Makita cordless drills.I also recently purchased the 10.8 Makita combo kit and feel the same about that purchase as well. My Sears 19.2V series of tools are now certain to now collect dust. These are well made, well designed tools and Makita should be encouraged to push the envelope on other cordless tools as well.
Customer Review: Best Value, best in class Summary: 5 Stars
This new LXT line of products are hard to beat. They have the weight of a 14v product with more torque and run time than any other you want to compare them with.
No comparison to the DeWalt line of products, I once swore by DeWalt but they have fallen behind with the times. Batteries are resonably priced but, give you all the benefits of what Lithium Ion products have to offer.
If you are lookig to upgrade your cordless tools this is the set to give you power, run time, torque and best battery life on the market. This three piece set with the 15 minute charger and two batteries is hard to beat for the price.
