Tools and Hardware Reviews of Master Lock 265DCCSEN Dual-Function Security BarCustomer Review: Attempted Home Invasion Summary: 5 Stars
My husband first bought this and I laughed. A couple of times, I forgot my garage door opener and tried to get the front door open but we could never get through with the bar in place. Then just 5 days ago we had an attemped home invasion while we were sleeping. I'm happy to report the bar did it's job and although they repeatedly tried to kick in our double doors, the crooks were unsuccesful. Unfortunately the police didn't get here soon enough to catch them. I'm not laughing anymore. The security bar kept my family safe & secure and I'm very grateful. If you keep the bar at about an 80 degree angle and make sure it's tightly on the door handle, you'll be safe. I have now recommended this product to several friends who know of the attempted invasion.
Customer Review: Beefy, but not much better than wood Summary: 3 Stars
Our application is a sliding door and not as something you can use to prop the front door shut.
Pro:
-Beefy metal telescoping pipe construction, weighs about 3-4 pounds
-Lots of adjustments in increments of about 1/8" or so to fit pretty well in our door
-Adjustments are quick/easy to make without tools
-Bright white so it's easy to spot from afar as a deterrent
-The wide diameter pipe, about 1.5" also makes it easier to spot from afar
-Name brand you trust
Con:
-My piece of oak worked pretty much the same (although admittedly our oak bar was a tad too short so it was easier to "jimmy" open). No attachment option to the door and jam, works only off pressure... no method to keep in place securely. Our son often loosens or totally defeats the bar without our knowledge because of this.
-Other charley bars often offer a folding design that no only prevents the bar from being knocked loose, but also allow it to fold up like a draw bridge, storing it out of the way (see our review of the "Patio Door Security Bar" that we bought from International Pro Source here on Amazon)
Neutral:
-For us, the pivoting foot and front door security option are nice, but features that we'll never use, thus the neutral rating on this element
Bottom Line: Some mixed pros and cons for our application. Consider all options before making a decision.
Customer Review: Best on the market Summary: 5 Stars
I looked at a lot of security bars on the market for our vacation home and this one is the best made & best fit for doors & patio doors.
Customer Review: Better than wood Summary: 5 Stars
If anyone uses wood like I did behind your patio sliding door, I strongly suggest the Master Lock 265DCCSEN. My home was broken into through our patio door even with the wood behind it. I searched for another secure option and came across the Master Lock. I love this lock as you can place it anywhere on your patio door. Someone would have to literally break the glass door to get past this lock. We loved it so much we bought three.
Customer Review: Broke on the first use! Summary: 1 Stars
This security pole fell over and broke the first time we tried to use it.
Don't waste your money!
