Tools and Hardware Reviews of Master Lock 4683Q TSA-Approved Nickel Keyed Alike Luggage/Baggage Lock, 4-PackCustomer Review: KEYED ALIKE TSA MASTER 4 PACK LOCKS Summary: 4 StarsI FELT REALLY NERVOUS ABOUT CHECKING MY LUGGAGE WITHOUT LOCKING IT. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I'VE FLOWN SINCE LUGGAGE IS SUBJECT TO SEARCHING. JUST TWO WEEKS BEFORE MY TRIP, I CAME ACROSS INFO. ABOUT TSA LOCKS & THE FIRST PLACE I LOOKED TO PURCHASE THEM WAS AMAZON. I ORDERED THE BRASS MASTER LOCK 4PK & THEY ARRIVED FAST & WITHOUT ANY HASSLES. I WAS ABLE TO SPREAD THE EXTRA KEYS AROUND, SO I FELT SECURE THAT I WOULD HAVE ONE, SHOULD I LOSE ONE. THEY WERE PERFECT FOR MY LUGGAGE BECAUSE THEY AREN'T BIG & BULKY, YET THEY ARE GOOD ENOUGH TO PROTECT AGAINST EASY THIEF. (LET'S FACE IT, IF SOMEONE WANTS TO GET IN YOUR LUGGAGE, THEY WILL NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF LOCK YOU PUT ON.) CONSIDERING I RECEIVED 4 LOCKS, THE PRICE WAS ALSO GOOD.
Customer Review: Good Locks for the Price Summary: 4 StarsDefinitely recommend these locks for the price. The only thing that disappointed me was their super small size. That means they won't be the most secure things on the planet but if you have to have TSA locks then might as well get these.
Customer Review: Good, for the price. Summary: 4 StarsFour for ten bucks, one key for all four, and it's TSA approved. You need more?
Customer Review: Good theft deterrent, but not very secure Summary: 4 StarsI recently traveled internationally and had to check 3 bags so I figured a 4-pack of TSA-approved, keyed alike Master locks was my best bet. I'm constantly unlocking and relocking my luggage because I always relock my luggage before leaving the hotel room, so having one key open all of my luggage was very convenient. My only complaint is that these locks aren't as secure as I'd expected from a keyed Master lock. Two security-related reasons that influenced me to purchase these locks are: 1) Master is well known for making quality locks. 2) I wanted keyed lock because I figured it's harder for someone to pick a keyed lock than it is for someone to roll through the combinations. To make a long story short, I accidentally lock the key inside my luggage. That's when I realized the drawback of having one key for 3 bags. I was getting ready to cut the luggage lining when, to my surprise, I was able to open the lock by pulling the lock's shackle with the index finger of my left hand and the lock's body with the index finger of my right hand (yes, I have small hands). The point is it's not very hard to break the lock open. This is great news if you accidentally lose your key or lock the key inside your luggage, but it also means other people can get into your luggage just as easily. I should also mention that while the lock will continue to function after being forced open it may be less secure. I lost my lock on my return flight and I'm guessing that it opened and fell off when the luggage handlers were transporting or loading my bag.
All in all, these locks are great theft deterrents but don't expect high security from such small locks. Likewise, don't expect too much from any luggage lock (like I did); they're all just theft deterrents.
Customer Review: TSA Master Lock Review Summary: 5 StarsThe TSA Brass Masterlocks are great! At first we didn't lock our bags and one was left partially opened and we lost some small items. Then we locked the bags with our old locks and had to stay with our bags so that they could open and inspect them, this took up almost an hour! We finally got these TSA approved locks and zipped through the airport with no problems and the TSA folks relocked our bags after the inspection. It's the way to go folks! No hassles and the quality is Masterlock all the way. Being keyed alike is a nice feature too!
