Tools and Hardware Reviews of Master Lock 5401D Select Access Wall-Mounted Key Storage Box with Set-Your-Own Combination Lock

Customer Review: Already came in handy!
Summary: 5 Stars

I left my house one day and realized I forgot my keys... I started heading back towards my house fearing that I had already locked the door. Fortunately the door was still open, but it still gave me a bit of a scare! Everyone else who had a key was off at work and I would've had a very long and sheepish wait outside of the house on a cold day.

That's when I resolved to buy one of these key boxes. I installed it out of plain view and set my own code in a matter of minutes. It's a good thing too since about six month later, I found myself in the exact situation I had feared (yes, I'm an airhead) and was very happy that I had installed this!

The quality is perfect - doesn't seem to leak or anything. A great product overall!

Customer Review: BETTER THAN THE MORE-POPULAR GE LOCKBOXES
Summary: 5 Stars

We couldn't find the Master Lock lock boxes at Home Depot or Lowe's any more, so we bought one of the GE lock boxes all the stores seem to be carrying now. They are TERRIBLE, and we returned the one we bought, and bought the Master Lock on-line from Amazon. The GE lock boxes have extremely tiny and hard-to-read numbers, plus, as far as I can tell, a 5-digit code is required, and numbers can't be repeated in sequence, meaning our favorite code we wanted to use wouldn't work! Master Lock is a much betterand sturdier lock box.

Customer Review: Best Solution on the Market
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a rural vineyard and keep my tractor and other equipment in the barn. I keep the key to the "man door" in this very solid box which allows access to anyone who knows the combination. This means my suppliers and my crew can get in the barn without needing a key, but it certainly will deter the random vandal/partying teenagers from breaking into the barn - keeping the property safe and the kids away from the equipment. It is far superior in construction, security and usability to those easily cracked "push-button" key holders. Far more solid than using just a combination padlock on the otherwise unlocked door.

This is the best solution I could find for allowing access to several people who don't have keys while keeping unwanted people out. I mounted it discretely on the back of a post protected from the weather and hasn't shown any signs of age.

Customer Review: Best investment for your teens and you!

Had to do something for the millions of times my son locked himself out of the house. This has been a life saver! Took me approximately 5 minutes, if that, to install. A few screws and voila.

Customer Review: Better safe than sorry!
Summary: 5 Stars

Unbelievably, during my 19 years of homeownership, the way I've kept a spare key outside the house is by putting it inside a fake rock (from Brookstone) designed to hold a key. Not real safe, huh? My wife finally convinced me that we should get something a bit more secure than a plastic rock with a sliding cover underneath it to hold our spare key. After doing a bit of research and poking around on Amazon, I came across this Master Lock key storage box. It looked like exactly what we needed. (I had considered one other product on Amazon, made by GE, but was totally put off by the fact that even if someone didn't know your exact combination, they could still open the box. The device would open as long as someone entered the right numbers in your code, regardless of the order. Example: If your code was 4231, if someone entered 1234, the box would open. That seems wack.) The Master Lock box was simple to install. I just used the four screws that came with it to mount it to the side of my garage. It took about 5 minutes. Then I set my combination, put the spare key in the box, and locked it up. Voila! My wife and I now feel much safer about the location of our spare key. And it's nice to be able to change the combination anytime we want. Another truly great aspect of this product is the sliding protective cover that protects the number wheels (or whatever you call them). The cover keeps the numbers protected from the elements. Also, the box seems very strong and secure. I would highly recommened it to anyone. In fact, I'm going to buy another one for my brother-in-law to install at his cottage. A great product at a great price.
