The SuperBar product, used for basic alignment of the table saw was developed with the hobbyist woodworker in mind. The SuperBar is designed for .750 inch wide miter slots and the Sears table saws that are slightly narrower [.740 inches]. Table saw miter slot widths vary in tolerances and must be accounted for. To insure a correct miter slot fit, the SuperBar body was designed to expand in width, by adjusting the on-board set screws, for both course and fine adjustment. Since the design requires expansion of the SuperBar body width, moldable plastic [polymer] was chosen for the body construction. The polymer body construction allows the body width to expand as required to fit the miter slot for optimum fit. Metal construction does not give us these expansion capabilities. The SuperBar, and its dial indicator is covered by a written Unconditional Lifetime Guarantee for quality and material.

I bought this "thing" about three years ago and was constantly resetting my table saw using this expensive piece of junk. Come to find out the master plate has a .004 "hump" in it and the gauge never reads the same. I was going crazy trying to align the saw.Although I got a replacement, the same problems existed. I now have a real alignment tool made in usa that's all metal and with an accurate gauge. Haven't had any more alignment problems. I have a Ryobi Table saw with a smaller miter slot and it won't fit it. I would recommend the TS-Aligner jr. Lite instead. The only thing you will get that you can use is the dial guage, and you will throw away $40.Customer Review: Plastic Bar

Does the job, but kind of flimsy. When combined with master plate (a great tool) this permits accurate alignment of your saw blade with your t-slots. The "superbar" that fits into your table's t-slot is plastic and uses adjustment screws to distort the plastic to fit the slot. When sliding the bar along the table's t-slot, the plastic bends and distorts.
Does the job, but I'm concerned about the longevity of the tool because of the cheap plastic bar. For the price, a metal bar should have been provided. An indicator gage with a magnet attaching to a miter slider would be easier to use. If you have time to experiment find another solution. If not buy mastergage.
