Tools and Hardware Reviews of Milwaukee 0490-22 4-Volt Lithium-Ion Screwdriver KitCustomer Review: 5 days & counting, plus 6 Months Summary: 5 Stars
Only had it for 5 days. Day 1, as I charged one battery, I ran the other as shipped from 3 LED's lit down to nothing by driving 8 x 3/4 screws into an OLD piece of pressure treated wood (not new an soft) and then backing them out with the drill torqued to 12.
The battery ran down after 30 screws in and out.
I then swapped batteries.
The fresh battery has been in since.
My primary use so far has been for unhanging and rehanging doors. I use it to disassemble, drill pilot holes, reassemble. So far, after 5 days and 6 doors (I'm not working fast) it still shows 4 LED's. On the first charge.
Clutch seems to work well. Weight is ideal.
I'm glad I found it because based on reviews of the previous Milwaukee model I ALMOST bought the yellow competitor which weighs 2.75lb, vs this at 0.9lbs.
Although MADE IN CHINA (how much would it cost if made in Mississippi?) it looks like they have quality control (I hope).
Summary - I'd recommend it.
6 month update - still going strong. I'll lay it down, come back 3 weeks later, battery still good. Just bought 3 more from HD.
Customer Review: Almost a 4 Summary: 4 Stars
This is almost an excellent tool. The crappy ni-cad battery has been replaced with a lithium and the increase in power is noticeable. No accessories come with this but a spare battery in included. The reason for a 4 is because the battery keeps falling out when using the tool and I have to tape it in place. Actually, I would give it a 3+ if I could. However, it is made in China so that explains it to me since none of my tools made in China are top quality. Milwaukee seems to have joined the "money first, quality last" bunch. I am not a heavy user of this tool so I have not experienced the battery and charger problems that others have.
Customer Review: An excellent tool at a great price Summary: 5 Stars
This is a well designed tool. It has lots of power, the battery last a long time, it has a 2nd battery and it only takes an hour to charge it. It gets into tighter spaces than my drill and the bending handle allows you to but more pressure on those slightly stripped out heads. I got it for $49 on a daily deal from Amazon, but it is still a bargain at $80.
Customer Review: Another great Milwaukee product! Summary: 5 Stars
I have really been impressed with some of the Milwaukee power tools I have bought lately, and this one is no exception. Excellent quality, very durable, and has plenty of power. Comes with two batteries, and lasts a long time on a charge.
Very handy power/battery meter on the side of the tool, illuminates LED's to show the amount of battery power remaining. Two speeds come in very handy...easy to change with a slider type switch. Nice that it uses lithium ion batteries, no battery memory worries!
Overall, very high quality product worthy of the Milwaukee name. The only bug I could find with it at all is that occasionally, the battery will release itself when the tool is in use, which is no big deal, just reinstall/reinsert it, and you are good to go....that is the only flaw I could come up with after using this tool at my auto shop for the past few months.
I would buy this again, hands down...and recommend it to a friend without a doubt!
Customer Review: Awesome Product, Long Life Batteries, Quick Charging Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned several electric screwdrivers in the past. All have had big limitations. Typical problems were:
- didn't hold a charge for very long during use
- would loss their charge during uses
- the batteries would eventually die and cost too much to replace, if you could even find them
- would not have enough power
- power would not be adjustable enough
- would be awkward to hold
- would take too long to charge
- slow turning
I got this unit on Amazon over a year ago and have not experienced any of the above problems. Quite the opposite. It is one of the best made power tools (I guess you can call this a 'power' tool, he he) that I have ever used.
It has plenty of power and can be finely adjusted. I have never timed it, but I think a battery charges in less than 30 minutes, well before the other battery in the unit will run down. One very neat thing - it has a 5 step gauge to let you know how much battery life is left in the battery while you are using it!
It's been awhile since I purchased it, so I am not positive, but I think it only came with one screwdriver head, a phillips. I would have liked for it to have came with a set of 3 phillips and 3 flat screwheads, of different sizes. That and the price are the only downsides. It is a bit pricy for an electric screwdriver.
Course, you can purchase a very nice Milwaukee screwhead set for about $10, which I have now done. So, I now have all that I need.
And, yes... as several people have said. 'How did I do ever do without this item?' I use it all the time.
I highly recommend it.
