Tools and Hardware Reviews of Milwaukee 0490-22 4-Volt Lithium-Ion Screwdriver Kit

Customer Review: Perfect Cordless Screwdriver
Summary: 4 Stars

I wasn't sure what to expect from this thing, but it is one torquey tool. I think my 19.2V NiCd cordless drill is going to be gathering a lot of dust. This little 4V Li-Ion screwdriver is very powerful and very easy to control. Some reviewers complained that the body was too slippery but I think it is easier to hold than a conventional screwdriver.

I opened the box, slapped in a battery and installed two sets of window blinds. I had installed a set the week before with my cordless drill and this time it was much easier. The clutch worked great - no stripped screw heads. The nifty chuck is very slick and quick. After my project was finished, the battery meter still showed 2 bars - same as it did when I opened the box.

My only criticisms are 1) price and 2) bits. I paid $122 for the kit (driver plus charger and two batteries), which is a heck of a lot more than I paid for the 3.6V B&D driver that I just threw away. This Milwaukee is much more tool than the B&D was but I wish I could have stayed under $100. The only other minor criticism is that the kit includes only a single Philips head bit. I have many bits and attachments but someone looking for a turnkey solution might be disappointed not to find even the basic 4 bits you usually get with a screwdriver.

Bottom Line: My new favorite tool!

Customer Review: Quality screwdriver from a quality company
Summary: 4 Stars

I finally broke down and purchased a cordless screwdriver after years of alternating between a cordless drill with a screwdriver bit and a manual screwdriver.

This is a definite improvement over using the drill. I am now able to reach areas that were inaccessible before.

The drill ships with two batteries and a charger that will return a battery to full charge quickly - long before you will be able to run down the second. The battery charge indicator is a nice touch. Whenever you operate the screwdriver the charge level indicator lights up on the battery.

The power is not impressive, but certainly adequate for almost all jobs. For tougher jobs you will need to use the slower of the two speeds as torque is limited at the higher speed. This is the only issue I have had, and probably comes from using a drill for this task for so long.

Building a deck using screws? This isn't the tool for the job (no, I didn't try that ;). I believe it is up to any other task, as long as you select the appropriate speed.

The ergonomics are ok, but not perfect. The units with more sculpted handles will be more comfortable for a lot of people. I was willing to overlook that in order to get a brand that I trusted to work for years. I would make the same purchase again and recommend the screwdriver to others.

Customer Review: Small and Powerful
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased the standard battery model Milwaukee screwdriver years ago and liked it. Over the years I also purchased several other brands which I never liked. When the old batteries finally gave out I made the jump to the Lithion battery model. What a difference. This one is far behond any others. Small, powerful and charges very quickly. I especially like how it bends in the middle.

Customer Review: Superb cordless screwdriver
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the best power tool I've ever purchased. The battery lasts a very long time between charges. I recommend this heartily to anyone needing a powerful cordless screwdriver.

Customer Review: The best but??
Summary: 5 Stars

I have tried just about all the cordless screwdrivers and most of the time I find Makita a little better on every tool.
But this one is the best for what it should be. A cordless screwdriver. The makita one does not feel like a screwdriver, has way to much power so you will strip out screws. The makita one has a impact action and will even drive in 3" deck screws. But why do you want to. Thant is what a impact driver or cordless drill is for. This one is the only one that trys to replace the look and feel and use of a screwdriver. You try to have a tool that does too many things and it does not do any of them well like this one. This one is designed so you can manually turn it by hand to feel the tightness of a screw.
Only draw back is it does not come with a spare bit holder or take double end bits. So you have a phillips and sloted bit with it.So you have to carry something else with you.
I did solve this problem. Makita cordless drills come with a spare bit holder that holds 2 screwdriver bits. Its attached to the handle by a small screw. Got parts info for one of my many Makita drills and ordered just this piece from makita for like $3.00. Used small screw and attached to the Milwaukee screwdriver and now very happy with tool. When I pick it up I have everything I need on the tool for phillips or sloted. Works great for home repair.
