The Milwaukee Drywall saw is well made heavy duty product. It came with the knife blade encased in a clamshell package that came off easily after pulling (or breaking) off a small plastic clip. The saw has a firm blade that can penetrate drywall easily with a slight rocking motion, and will cut cleanly thereafter. At first, the rasp did not seem to be doing much, but with an up and down motion it can smooth out the plaster and expand an opening. That makes sense since a forward/backward motion is used for cutting. While cutting, I found no need to limit the blade's penetration depth to the pre-rasp area.
The cut is clean, with the edges of the paper left slightly frayed. It's as clean or cleaner than what you'd get with a rotary tool, almost as quick, and needs no setup. The cuts won't be quite as clean as with an oscillating multi-tool, but in typical applications there will be no practical difference. It's well suited for everything from installing old work boxes to medicine cabinets and the rasp part makes the tool forgiving enough to adjust any deviations in a cut.
I own many tools that can handle the jobs this tool is designed for. For small to medium sized cuts, I'd choose this one first since it's the most convenient and does a great job. For large cutouts, it would not be my first choice, but I'd still consider it among the top choices. An opening for a medicine cabinet could be handled comfortably in a few minutes with this tool, so it's still well enough suited that if you need a single all around tool for cutting drywall, this product fits the bill. Compared to other jab saws, I think this one has the best designed handle in its class. There are others with excellent blades, but this one will hold its own and the addition of the rasp makes it the best all around choice.
