Customer Review: If you need to cut 3" hole...

I purchased this hole saw and a 3" forstner bit to cut a number of 3" holes. They both work, but this hole saw is a lot easier to use (and generates a lot less sawdust) if you're cutting a hole in installed wood. The forstner bit shouldn't be used in a hand drill; as long as your drill is powerful enough, there's no such constraint on this hole saw.
Note that this saw does NOT come with an arbor; you need to purchase one separately. The arbors that work with this large of a hole saw have two pegs as well as the center pilot bit. See Milwaukee 49-56-7140 7/16-Inch Quick Change Hole Saw Arbor for an example. The piece with the pegs can be loosened and slid forward, fitting into two matching holes in the hole saw. The pegs transfer the drill's power and prevent the hole saw from becoming impossibly tight on the threaded shaft.
I haven't used this particular saw blade long enough to comment on longevity, but my experience with other Milwaukee hole saws has been good. Like any tool, they'll eventually wear out if you're a commercial carpenter. If you're a home user, you'll probably never have to replace it.

Milwaukee Ice Hardened products utilize a proprietary cryogenic hardening process that improves upon traditional heat treat processes. Unlike surface coatings that wear away, cryogenics harden to the core by minimizing soft metal (austenite) and creating more hard metal (martensite). The result is a product that is more consistently hard throughout, resulting in life up to 50% longer than the competition.
