Tools and Hardware Reviews of Mosquito Barrier 2001 Liquid Spray Repellent, 1-QuartCustomer Review: If used properly-- it is great!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I used a mosquito service last year who sprayed for me, and she made the mistake of showing me what she sprayed and how she did it...now I am doing it myself*!!! If you start early in the spring- like March for here in Texas- you can actually prevent the problem before it starts. It is much harder to control once you already have a problem.
Follow the directions on the package, also adding in the vegetable oil (to kill larvae) and I add about 15-20 drop of peppermint essential oil. It is also an insect repellent and hides the smell of the garlic, which can be strong initially.
Remember that mosquitoes lay their eggs not just in damp areas, but in soil, those deep dry cracks we sometimes get in our yard, gutters where leaves pile up, inside tight-leaved shrubs like boxwoods, etc. Try and spray very liberally around those areas and do it when it is sunny so that it can dry effectively and make sure to repeat if it rains within 48 hours of spraying. Yes, it takes a little time, but it is worth it for me to have a nice yard where our family can hang out.
Also remember that a mosquito will travel a VERY far way- like a mile- for a meal, so you are never going to eliminate every mosquito, but this product is effective if used properly.
*I use in conjunction with Dr. T's granules- one week I spray and one week I spread granules.
Customer Review: It Works! Summary: 5 Stars
I live in California, and I know that mosquitos are not as bad here as they are in much of the country. That being said, I had basically quit using my patio because I was tired of bites and risk of West Nile. I also dislike using nasty chemicals that eradicate all life from my yard. I sprayed my yard (10K sqft) with Mosquito Barrier two weeks ago, and have not seen a single mosquito since. I'm sold!
Customer Review: It's worth a try! Summary: 5 Stars
Let's face it, the mosquitoes are going to win. This product does better than any I know without harmful side effects for people or pets. Besides, it smells like someone's making pizza! (It only smells during the first few hours after application). The most difficult part of the process is paying attention to the weather. You have to apply and let it dry. Watch for a couple of days in a row with no rain the forecast and spray the repellent on EVERYTHING: fence, house, bushes, grass, flowers (if you add a little canola oil, it makes everything shiny too!). I used this a couple years ago with success and I'll use it again.
Customer Review: Mosquito Barrier did not work in Central Texas Summary: 1 Stars
Mosquito Barrier did not work on our yard in Central Texas. We sprayed our entire backyard, including landscaping and trees. The smell was very strong, but only for a couple of days. After those two days, we did not notice any change in the number of mosquitoes we have in our backyard.
