Tools and Hardware Reviews of Mr. Heater 80,000 BTU Propane Convection Heater #MH80CVCustomer Review: Great garage heater for winter projects Summary: 5 Stars
This was a gift for my husband and he's used it at home and at our cabin to allow him to work on hobbies no matter what the weather. At home and at the cabin he's cracked the back/side door and garage doors and inch or two and worked on things from refurbishing a car, playing ping pong, throwing pottery and letting it dry, and just cleaning up the garage.
GREAT heater for the price and BTUs.
Customer Review: Great heater Summary: 4 Stars
We bought this heater last minute due to a boy scout meeting we were having in the garage for a specific badge. Since its a new garage and still unheated and not insulated it was pretty cold here in New England. We turned the heater on (after having to run to the hardware store to get an adaptor since our propane tank was an older model) and within 10 minutes you could really feel the difference. This is a great heater and I strongly recommend it. Our garage is approx 18x24 with 10'ceilings. Not bad at all. We were pleasantly surprised.
Customer Review: Great heater for a pole barn Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this heater for my 30'x45' pole barn. I used it to heat it for a Halloween party and it worked very well. It was in the low 30's outside but kept well into the upper 60's inside. My barn is not insulated and is drafty. I placed it inside a playpen fence arranged in a large square to keep kids out and put it off to the side in the back of the barn. I hung a box fan in the rafters pointed down to circulate the warm air. I used one 20lb. propane cylinders in 5 hours mostly on medium. I had it on high for the first couple hours to get things warmed up.
For the price of the heater and convenience of propane I think this is a definite bargain way to heat a barn. I used a kerosene salamander before but the fumes were awful. This heater burns clean without the smell. The noise is not bad at all. If you are having a party, you won't even notice it over the people talking. When I'm by myself in the wood shop I can hear the stereo just fine.
Just a word of caution. Even though this burns without noticeable fumes (you will smell fumes during the initial use as the new paint or coatings get burned off) remember that this does use up oxygen. If your area is well sealed you could reduce the amount of oxygen in the room.
Customer Review: Great heater for the money Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this as a supplement to a kerosene jet heater that I also use in my garage. I use the jet for quick heat up in the winter, but the down side is the fumes and lack of thermostat. This (Mr. Heater) heater is great if you are going to be working around it because it's cleaner burning and collapses for storage. It puts off a little bit of black ash if you burn it too low, but turn it up and it goes away.
Customer Review: Heats 3 car insulated garage really well Summary: 4 Stars
This product is terrific! Yes, there is some water / humidity increase in the air as a result of the combustion of propane to fire, but for running it a few hours at a time while working on the car, cleaning the garage, etc., it's fine. There is virtually no odor (some the first time it burns) and when on High it heats the room up to working temp (i'll guess 65 - 70+ degrees when it's darn cold outside 10 - 20 degrees) in 10 - 15 minutes. As for the noise that other people report, it really isn't that loud. Yes, you can hear the heater running, but especially when it's running on anything than full high, it's quite tolerable; turn the radio on and you can hardly hear it.
I give it 4/5 stars only because the lid is able to slide up and down - making it easier to store and travel. But the little tabs that snap in to hold it in place can be a little tricky to get them to "pop" after the first few uses just because the aluminum is by nature flexible. So I leave mine always fully extended, but still store it in the original box, just with the box open on top and foam still covering it up. I also kept the original packing pieces for the regulator and hose connections to keep them covered when not in use.
For about $100 you can't beat this product.
