Tools and Hardware Reviews of Mr Heater MH18B Portable "Big Buddy" HeaterCustomer Review: Great value for money Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great heater for the price. You may want to get the hose to hook up a 5 gallon tank to save money. It cost $11.75 to fill a 5 gallon (20 lb) tank (12/2010). Two one pound bottles (2 lb) cost $11.60, at this rate 20 lbs would cost $58. So it pays to get the $45 quick connect hose. It works well and has good safety features.
Customer Review: Handy Heater Summary: 4 Stars
The portable Big Buddy puts out plenty of heat. We use it in a family room and it really takes the chill off on a cold morning. The three heat settings are handy and on days that aren't real cold, the low setting is plenty. The fan is a nice feature and allows one to direct the warm air. It is a little noisy though.
The heater is a nice compact size. We use it with a large propane tank, which is probably a good idea if you don't want to be changing tanks often. It also has some very good safety features such as the low oxygen shutoff sensor and a feature that shuts it off if it gets knocked off.
We are very satisfied with this product. I would have given it five stars if not for the slightly noisy fan.
Customer Review: Heater exploded Summary: 5 Stars
Bought Big Buddy MH 18B through Amazon
ser# mhc 748000358386 on Dec 29 2008.
Worked fine for a month then I put it away, I live in AZ mild winters.
A year later Now December 09 I got it out hooked it up correctly and it did a mild explosion fire shot out a foot or 2 and continued until I got the source turned off which was a 20 lb cylinder. The problem was not the hose or connection. Up until now I knew of no recall and my heater was not under the recall anyway. My conclusion is that they don't have the problem fixed yet.
Customer Review: I love it Summary: 5 Stars
The best in the best thing. Excellent, fabulous, fantastic. In the place to the one that I go of camping site in the nights the cold descends to 1 or 2 grades, before i have that that to sleep with gloves, pasamontañas and two layers of clothes. Now to the interior of my tent I can sleep in underwear. It is certain.. this heater is formidable. If he/she falls it turns off alone, if there is not I oxygenate he/she fades alone. I recommend to control the emission of monoxide of carbon with a detector.
Customer Review: It's a money pit Summary: 2 Stars
My wife bought this for me so I could stay warm while working in the garage during the winter months. I also experienced the quick shut-down of running on 1 lb canisters... and it plain just doesn't last long on them. As a person with some sort of environmental conscience, I couldn't keep that up. Yes, I could go for the 20 lb. BBQ tank, but then there's the fuel filter and the special hoses required to hook it up. Did I mention that the AC adapter to run the fan is not included, and will cost $20 at Radio Shack? However, the fan itself is a total joke--a little 80 mm computer case fan moves more air that that! So you'll probably want to run some sort of box fan next to the unit to blow the heat around the room. I feel really bad because I know my wife tried hard to find me something really nice; but this requires too much extra time and money to get it working properly. Sure, I like to "tinker," but not with something as basic as heat. Besides, I want my "tinkering" time to be taken up with my hobbies, not fudging around with the heater just to get the garage warm.
