First, a quick note: At the time of writing this, the product's accuracy specification listed on Amazon is a typo (for the imperial measurement). It's .001 inch, not .0001 inch, as per the product box. All the other details listed including the metric accuracy are correct. Per the product literature, the repeatability specification is .0005 inch.
I was rather surprised by the quality of this item. For what I paid, I was expecting a flimsy caliper that gave imprecise, non-consistent readings, which was not the case with this tool. Of course, the overall construction is not what you'd see with a high-end device, but it's also not a cheap plastic toy. The caliper is accurate with repeatable results when measuring markings on a 1/100 inch graduated ruler, granted that's well within the specifications, but a good indicator nonetheless. I will try some testing on gauge blocks later and update this review if I remember.
The buttons are very responsive. The thing also comes with it's own padded case (+50 points) molded to look like wood (-25 points), and comes with not one, but two LR44 batteries (+25 points), the first of which is already installed. It measures depth and steps in addition to inner and outer dimensions. Plus, there's a data port, although I can't find any information about it. I'll try getting something out of it and update this if I have any success.
Tip: Not only does it have an auto-off function, but it will turn on automatically upon movement.
Bottom Line: Unless your building a spaceship or designing nanobots, save yourself some hard earned cash and try this one out first.
