Norelco 4222-036-06150 NiCd AA Battery Cell Pack
The Battery pack was received 4 days before promised date and in good condition. These batteries appear to be an OEM replacement for my Norelco 835rx razor.
Open the case by removing the two bottom star head screws and then the top two screws located under the trimmer slide plate.
As stated previously, this is not a 'drop in' battery replacement. The old batteries must be removed from the PC board. This was easily done by carefully cutting the old battery leads with small sissors. Clean up any corrosion caused by any battery acid leaking out of the old batteries. (I find it helpful to take digital close up photos of the disassembly process so that I may refer back to them if need during re-assembly.)
Separate the two PC boards at the connector. The bottom board remained attached to the motor leads. To avoid damaging the white plastic hinge guide on the back of the top PC board remove it by pushing the two clips through from the top.
I used solder wick to remove the old solder. Be careful to not form any solder bridges on the PC board which might cause shorts in the circuit and remove the old battery leads from the PC board.
Install the new battery pack in the same orientaton that the old one was removed. The positive lead goes into the positive slot on the PC board and the negative to the negative, respectively. Resolder the new battery tabs in place. Re-attach the white plastic hinge adapter to the back of the top PC board. Re-install the bottom PC board into the hinge of the top board and carefully pinch PC boards together making sure the connectors are properly mated and seated. Reassemble in the reverse order of disassembly.
Test razor to make sure it is operating properly and the cutters are rotating in the correct direction.
Charge the razor per operating manual instructions.
Although it will be several years to discover the long term performance characteristics of these batteries, I suspect they will perform as well as the original factory batteries.
I now have a razor which performs to original specifications at a cost of about $20.
Customer Review: Good product if you have solder skills Summary: 3 Stars
I thought I could solder but while applying heat I broke the copper bands that connect to the circuit board breaking the razor completly and making the new battery useless. Take heed to the other comments regarding soldering. I just dumped everything into a plastic baggie and put it up on the shelf... if I actually believed in evolution it may repair itself - but I don't so I just went out and bought another Norelco. In 10 or so years, when the battery in it goes - I'll head to the store and buy another shaver. Good shaver but bad battery design ;-(.
Customer Review: Norelco Battery Summary: 3 Stars
Need to have solder/desolder skills to install battery into shaver. I used "wicking wire" to remove solder and things went well. Not for the novice! On the good side, after installing battery the shaver worked like new.
Customer Review: Quality over price Summary: 5 Stars
I agree with a previous reviewer. When it comes to Ni-Cad batteries, don't skimp on the price a few bucks; choose the original manufacturer's replacement. It is enough of a task to solder the battery in, so you don't want to do it often. I used a pencil soldering iron to heat the solder on the battery tabs and bend them straight while applying slight pulling pressure on the battery to pull the battery and tabs out out of the circuit board. Now I have a like new razor again that I charge once a week at most. It was an expensive razor so the effort was well worth it.
Customer Review: Works Good Summary: 5 Stars
These batteries work very well. I cannot understand people giving this product bad reviews due to their own lack of research and skills. I guess they think they are replacing flashlight batteries. There is a web site called [...]and if you input what you are looking for you can find out how to do things with the product you want. By doing your research you will not have to give bad reviews just because you lack the knowledge to properly repair simply things.
