The Item # on my fan is 5012. Bought it in 2009 and it worked fine the first night I used it on battries. Second night it started going up and down on the speed of the fan. Ran it on plug in power and it does the same. Noticed the plug in does get rather warm. I like the fan, it blows decient amounts of air for using in a tent and I have used it in my travel trailer when the power went out and it supplyed enough air in the trailer bed room coming from the foot of the bed. Saved the night for me. The most I have ran it on battries is 32 hours on a camping trip and it still had plenty power left. A bit leary of the up and down of the speed, so if anyone knows of this fan shorting out or something, please post it. My fan is quite enough too. I'm not going to recommend it because of the surging and not knowing why, but I'm not throwing mine out just yet!!Customer Review: Just what I needed.

The fan was just what I was looking for. Small enough to fit in the window. It worked just fine and I was pleased until later when I turned on my TV. I noticed there was some kind of electrical interference on my TV screen. The kind one might get running, say, a vacuum cleaner. I turned off the fan and the problem with my TV stopped.
Well, I thought, I'll run an extension cord from a different room and that should solve the problem -- it didn't. Since the fan also runs on batteries, I got some D batteries and tried again. No luck. Even when moving the fan to another room and turning on another TV, the problem persisted.
I guess the one I got could be defective, but I paid too much for shipping to bother with a refund or replacement.

I have the older model 1071, same motor & blades. I've used mine for well over a year now in the stateroom of my ship. It has been run constantly on high for month (well over 700 hours straight), and never a problem. I take it with me wherever I need to work, it has been exposed to the salty air of the seas and is still chuggin'. I do wish it was easier to take apart and clean, as dust has now accumulated on the blades and screens.Customer Review: No complaints

I purchased it to be used in my storm shelter if the electricity goes out. It looks like it will do the job.
Have not used it except to make sure it worked when I got it.
